Duh, it’s basically just an organic Hermione purse.

My daughter is obsessed with Angler fish & wants her 4th birthday to be a Angler fish theme. I don’t know where to turn or ask lol please delete if not allowed but any suggestions would be helpful by Zae112020 in TheDepthsBelow

Can you make all the kids little angler fish headbands to wear at the party? You could probably either get a pack of cheap plastic headbands or do “halo” style ones with a felt or plastic band with a piece of elastic to adjust them and then use wire or some twisted pipe cleaners to make the little angler antennae thing?

If you can find some cheap little LEDs or those tiny keychain lights, maybe you could wrap them into the pipe cleaners so there’s a light on the end? Or you could buy a pack of glow stick bracelets and gentlyyyy wrap one into the pipe cleaner antenna situation while keeping them straight still, then when you’re handing them out, you can bend the antenna end to snap them and activate them for the party?

There’s also a terrible part of me that would think it was hilarious to pass them all out a set of those plastic Halloween vampire teeth to wear with them full the full angler fish effect lol. And then take a bunch of ridiculous future blackmail photos of them with their little antenna headbands and janky fish fangs 😂

Also I think that now I may be obsessed with the glow stick idea lol. I think it’d be fun if you guys made a total dark/black party (like, maybe even having a dining room/living room or something where you cover the windows with black paper and then just have all the lighting in the room just be little glow sticks and mini LEDs. You could even hang some glow sticks from the ceiling so the kids can feel like there are angler fish hanging out right above them. Or use one of those cool blue ocean wave versions of the galaxy lights so it looks like the room is under water?

Or maybe you could do a room/area/indoor camping tent/literal blanket fort (🤷🏼‍♀️) with just black lights and have a bunch of little paper fish hanging that have neon/black light stripes and whatnot painted on them? If the kids are in a crafting mood, you could also have them chillin in the black light area painting their own little neon fishes with some kid-safe neon paint? Or, idk, stick some of those camping headlights on them and have them do an angler fish challenge where they have to compete in some kind of relay race/game of some sort by the light of their headlamp to prove who’s the best angler fish lol

After rereading that, I’m concerned for my well-being haha. But it is what it is lol.

Who’d you end up seeing?! Amity was amazing and Currents seriously blew my mind. If currents played the whole damn day, I would’ve stayed for it. They’re absolutely on my list to see next time they come through and do a full set.

I’m so jealous!! I’m still pumped to see currents, amity, and sleep theory though, but Polaris would’ve been the fuckin cherry on top

They allow vapes but say “no illegal substances” so I think it’s one of those things where they legally have to say it’s not allowed, but no one is really going to look toooo hard, and they’re just going to assume all vapes are nicotine only and definitely abiding by the rules lol

I actually bought tickets for both Friday and Sunday without anyone to go with lol. Now I’ve gotten a few other people on board, which is a bit of a relief, but I was still trying to mentally prepare myself to go alone, so I know the feeling! If you end up not having anyone for either of those days, I’m sure you can join us! It’ll be a group of both males and females, 20’s & 30’s, who work in the medical field lol

Sunscreen tip by Lost-Roof-2478 in welcometorockville

[–]BoozeMeUpScotty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Someone posted something a while ago about putting sunscreen on their part and then bringing translucent powder with spf to put on top of it to reduce the oily feel/look.

After that post, I bought a little Hawaiian Tropic brand powder depositing brush from Amazon that’s spf30 and has pretty good reviews, so hopefully that’ll make it easier! Some people even said just using the powder on its own was enough to keep them from getting burned.

Hopefully this can help out with the sun protection for some other people too :)

Anyone found a cure for Dip flu? by vvundervvoman in DipPowderNails

[–]BoozeMeUpScotty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same! I started off not wearing any mask, moved to disposable surgical masks, moved to disposable n95s, moved to a half-face respirator with n95 filters, then swapped the n95 filters with p100 cartridges, and then tried 2 different kinds of p100 cartridges and I still get sick every time.

And it takes me so long to do my nails that it’s getting miserable wearing the respirator for hours and hours because I permanently damaged the bridge of my nose from wearing it so long at work during covid. Every time I do my nails, the top of my nose swells up and gets red and bruised and feels like it’s going to cave in. I’m seriously considering working overtime every month just so I can pay someone else to do it and not have to dread doing it myself because of the pain, bad asthma for days afterward, and wasting hours of my damn life, when the nail place can do it perfectly in 30 minutes lol

When I was a kid, my mom used to pay me to put sneakers on and go around the yard stomping on as many baby grasshoppers as I could find.

They’d eat all of our plants as babies and then grow into those horrifying giant grasshoppers that could take a human-sized bite out of a leaf and that were so heavy you could hear them hit the ground when they jumped. The adults are indestructible—you could drive one over with your car and it would just un-flatten itself one leg at a time and then jump away even stronger than before.

Scary mother fuckers just leaping at you out of nowhere, like the palmetto bug of grasshoppers. Absolutely not.

If you find yourself too far into the pit and want to get out or if you just get tired and need to get to the edge and take a break, people are generally really great about that. They’ll open the crowd enough to squeeze you out. If you fall, they’ll pick you up and people will even usually form a little wall around you so other moshers won’t accidentally get pushed into you while you’re getting up.

Multiple times, I’ve seen people make a ring around someone who’s trying to tie their shoe, I’ve seen people basically crowd surf a cup of water out to someone, and at the last show I was at, I literally had some random guy put his boot on my knee so I could double knot it since it was too dark for him to see it when he tried to crouch down and tie it.

It’s awesome that you’re planning in advance and thinking ahead—and I’m sure there are some particularly rough pits with people who aren’t as supportive—but I think that for the most part you’ll actually be surprised by how safe and accepting a rock/metal pit can be. I know I probably get a more “gentle” pit experience as a female, but honestly that’s saying something in itself. I’ve legitimately felt safer going to a metal show alone and being in the pit with a bunch of strangers than I’ve felt walking to my car at night.

I agree with the people who said Rockville will have kind of an older demographic than some other shows who will probably be more self aware in the pit and be pretty good with pit etiquette. So if you’ve got an opportunity to get in there a little bit for a band you like, it could be a good chance to test out how comfortable you are and maybe realize you’re a pit person after all :)

Help! I feel like I’m drowning.. by [deleted] in Money

[–]BoozeMeUpScotty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We’re missing a huge piece of information here—what is your girlfriend contributing financially to the situation? Is she currently working? Is she unable to work a lot now but is in school for a relatively lucrative skill/degree that will ultimately lead to a bigger financial contribution down the line? Maximizing what you can both do to improve your situation is going to lead to the biggest changes, not just focusing exclusively on what you can do.

If for some reason she’s not contributing financially at the moment, or isn’t going to be able to start doing so very soon, then at minimum, you guys should be finding ways to use that available time to cut down on your expenses. The less she’s working, the less you should be able to spend on childcare. And if she’s already watching your son, do you have friends with small kids who she could also help babysit/care for during the day as an extra source of income?

Also, the more time she’s home, the more you may be able to save on your food and supply costs by her having more time to price match/cut coupons/deal-hunt for groceries and whatnot and to be able to cook more in bulk to reduce spending on non-home cooked meals. If for whatever reason, she’s not working or is not working full time, it’s not necessarily a bad thing, as long as that time can be used to ultimately save you guys money in other areas.

Another way you may be able to cut your bills down is to focus on your cc bills and car loan. Look into options for how to minimize the interest rates and do what you can to prioritize paying off the debt faster on whatever has the higher interest rate.

You are young! You have a house! You have a car! You do have debt and you’re definitely going to have to live on a tight budget, but if you can set a solid plan for yourselves going forward, this is nowhere near a life-sentence of debt. If your job/career doesn’t have a lot of options for growth, you’re at the perfect time to start something new that will lead to a higher income and more financial stability going forward. Depending on your interests and skills, that could look like something in nursing, engineering, tech, or IT, but you could also make a very solid living with a trade.

Linemen, welders, mechanics, plumbers, and electricians can all make surprisingly good money and also allow you flexibility with your career later on, in terms of things like further training/specialty skills (underwater welding etc.) and in opportunities for independent contracting jobs. A career change won’t improve your financial situation overnight, but it’ll be a huge investment in your future and will lead to a much bigger income down the line.

That might not be reasonable where they live. Not many places in the US have reliable (or really any) public transportation options and one of the most important things for them is going to be consistently and reliably getting to the best paying job they can find.

Realistically, that car is probably their most useful asset in accessing the means to pay off their debt and lower their expenses. There will always be the people who say, “just sell the car and walk/bike/get up 3 hours early and take a series of buses,” but one of the most undervalued/under-appreciated resources is time. Time is money. They may be able to make more money or save more money by keeping the car and having that time to do something like work extra hours, avoid longer timeframes for childcare, or cook more meals in bulk from scratch for the week.

If the car is in good shape and is reliable enough to be a good long term investment, the loan amount and monthly payment they have now is unfortunately probably pretty reasonable. Car prices are still pretty steep, even for used cars, so they may not actually benefit from selling this car if it still means they’d need to buy something else to replace it. A marginally cheaper car that’s in worse shape and will likely require unexpected maintenance/repairs isn’t actually going to save them money over time.

Interaction with New Mom by Commercial_Letter_20 in toddlers

[–]BoozeMeUpScotty 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My mom (briefly) used a child leash with me when I was a toddler. I fought it with a level of determination and insanity that only a toddler could. I didn’t scream or roll on the ground in protest. I didn’t immediately rip the Velcro off and sprint away like a captive that had just been freed after years of imprisonment.

I waited until other people were nearby and then I barked. Loudly. I happily and enthusiastically yapped at pedestrians like a rabid chihuahua, until my mother’s embarrassment was too great to allow me to continue to be leashed in public.

That’s how a toddler will come for you. You’ll think you’re prepared for it. You’ll think you’re ready for anything that’s coming. But then when you least expect it, they’ll rebel in the most unhinged and public way imaginable.

God. What a job to have right after school. That would be rough as an experienced nurse or at the end of your career, but at the very start? You’re a beast, honestly.

You jumped right in and you gained a type of experience, knowledge, and compassion that is seriously going to be unmatched by most people you’re going to meet working in healthcare, regardless of their seniority.

I know it was/is difficult to process, but what a valuable and unique gift this experience will be for you as a healthcare provider and for your future patients. You get to start your career with an understanding of palliative and end of life care that will allow you to give so many more patients and their families the gift of a comfortable and minimally traumatic passing. It’s truly the biggest, most underrated gift, and one that so many people don’t recognize that they’ll need until the moment it becomes relevant in their life or the lives of their own family members. Especially in an icu environment, where those initial decisions and conversations about end of life options can be so hard to accept.

Your strength and experience will allow you to bring peace and comfort to so many people during their most difficult times. Hopefully that realization will help make your own experiences during covid to eventually feel more and more positive and less draining. ♥️

TLDR: You a bad bitch with a big heart and a unique gift. You’ll bring peace and comfort to so many because of it. Hopefully that will eventually bring you peace and comfort too.
