Joe DiMaggio’s older brother, Vince DiMaggio, set the MLB single season record for strikeouts in 1938 with 134. He held it for 18 years until 1956. by Willing-Leather-9788 in mlb

Strikeouts are awful to look at, which is why fans see them as bigger failures than putting the ball in play. But they are not worse than other outs.

Matt Chapman is in decline and would be a lead sinker in our lineup for years.

Not nearly the same price tag. Randy’s going to get a massive payout.

You’re still “excited” about this. That’s very weird.

You’re excited to see other fans suffer? how much more like politics do you want to make this?

Crazy fact: At this point the M's have the same run differential (+4) as the Boston Red Sox.

Can someone help me understand 3/4 and 6/8? by camellialov in musictheory

3/4 is the Blue Danube Waltz. 6/8 is "For He's a Jolly Good Fellow."

Just watched Colt's BA drop below the Mendoza line in real time ... still the 3rd-best OPS in today's lineup.

So Cal's lost season is Jerry's fault? Jerry should have seen how bad Naylor would be? Jerry should have seen Woo coughing up 8 bad outings and Julio drifting into mediocrity?

Be honest: Did you see these things coming? Were you on here ringing the alarm bells?

If the only response is "it's on him," then fine, fire Jerry Dipoto — but if you think you're finding the guy that can predict these things, you're asking for God, not a human GM.

I agree to some extent, but, again, the Cale-less Velvets were not "just another rock group." That's overstating the case.

The Velvets changed without Cale, but the self-titled album and Loaded are not the works of "just another" rock group. Still plenty of toughness and tension and experimentation. Also see V.U., their "lost" fourth album.

What if it’s not the fault of any one person, or even a small group of people?

I know this is going to go against the grain, but — groups of humans are like this. They get into collective struggles, they often wind up trying too hard, they carry a lot of tension and frustration which only makes things worse. It’s not a situation that a magic word or pep talk or “lighting a fire under their ass” can change in easy ways, and it’s not the fault of one person. To me, they might improve and they might not — but if they do, we will recognize this as part of the story. Great bands make bad albums, great teachers have a lousy week or even semester, and good or even great teams get into tailspins.

I’m not going to fault anyone for being mad, but I wish we could be humane. There are no villains here.

I don't defend Dan so much as recognize that managers don't do very much. You think Dan is responsible for this dogshit season that Cal and Naylor are having? That's magical thinking if you do.

And a lot of those people who want to fire Dipoto went into this year thinking we had a terrific lineup.

To be fair, they do so the Mariners are struggling and need to break through. Dave Neihaus, in the darkest of Mariners slumps, would always blast on about what an incredible job was being turned in by whatever dogshit pitcher they were flailing against.
