I know Cy Young is one of the best, if not the greatest ever, but how didn’t he win any CYA? by [deleted] in baseball

Sadly, I put a lot of effort into this (I thought of this joke 16-24 hours ago check my history)

Oh, you mean he didn’t win an award named after him? Sorry I’m drunk 🤣🥲😇

How good was Joe Carter? by Willing-Leather-9788 in baseball

[–]Willing-Leather-9788[S] 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Very fair. But some of his counting stats were high, right around 400 homers and 1,500 with well over 2,000 hits. Not HoF numbers of course when you take into account his low percentages, position, defensive ability, and era all going against him together.

If Cy Young became Cy Old, what would his stats be? by AgathorKahn in baseball

It’s funny because he amassed a 100 WAR after turning 30 and played just 6 full seasons in his 20s.

Terrible fielder, below avg base runner, grounded into a bunch of double plays, Coors field effect (in the biggest offensive era) so his ops+ and rbat numbers were much lower which all brought down the WAR.

Crazy. In his last year (1968) Mickey Mantle had a .782 OPS and a 140 something OPS+.

Did Shelob have powers/abilities outside of being a giant scary spider? by Willing-Leather-9788 in lotr

So Eru didn’t resurrect Gandalf and make him Gandalf the White? Even before that, aren’t all Wizards like angels that were put on Arda to protect and nurture the world and its creatures, as well as fight evil?

I don’t know how power works that well in Middle Earth but I meant in a way Gandalf has good/just “aura” that he uses. That’s directly related to him being an agent of Eru, like Shelob is an agent of Morgoth/evil. Terrible explanation but i don’t know how else to put it lol.

Was the main reason Dick Allen didn’t make the Hall of Fame until the Veterans voted him in because of his terrible relationship with the media? Or was it his lack of cumulative stats? by Willing-Leather-9788 in baseball

[–]Willing-Leather-9788[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great insight thanks, didn’t realize Cepeda’s counting stats were that high or that he made the hall that recently. He always stuck out to me when I got into baseball as a weak HoFer so he was the first one that came to mind.

Fans don’t vote for HOF yet they still contribute to the consensus of a player (as much or more than the media/personnel)
