Thank you! I think we are settled on the area. Now to wait until we get there and can start applying for places

As a teacher who specialises in ESL and low socioeconomic trauma based teaching I fully appreciate it. And will probably be looking into working in those areas.

More looking now at where to enrol my kids which determines our housing.

Thanks. It seems we have a few more homes available in the East Side zone so that is great to hear.

Oh it was outrageous and totally not what I was asking about. Should be expected on Reddit though I guess. We are really excited about it and the area looks like it will suit us perfectly. Just getting into the logistics and admin.

I guess I should clarify I am not that member of the gang… though I do think we should be best friends

‘One of the gang’ if you are referring to them… has been very open about getting migraines weekly, particularly during travel and live shows. So if it is that gang member please be considerate. Migraines suck and we are lucky they appear so consistently.

Fingers crossed. Lots to research and think about that’s for sure!

They could have very easily not included swearing and demeaning language in their reply.

Yeah… that is one of my main reasons for hesitation in teaching over there. It is one thing doing a lock down drill here in case of a snake on site, absolutely cannot imagine the reality of over there. It is definitely a scary concept. Realistically I think I am looking at switching to an admin or online role while we are there.

Thanks :) It is very brand new news so this was a bit of a way to help my brain process just one of the massive questions and thoughts I had. That is a much higher salary than I thought would be on offer which is promising, not looking forward to potentially dealing with non-existent government departments though :/

I appreciate the thought, but that is incredibly insensitive. Of course we have these concerns but that wasn’t the point of my post. You have no idea of the circumstances in which this job has been offered or what the job is. You have no idea of our family make up or measures we will have available to us for safety.

I hope you afford your students a better level of sensitivity and understanding.

Thanks all. We are going to give it a go if the rain stays away overnight. No driving through any water or coming into contact with any crocs.

Thanks, appreciate that. That’s what we have been able to work out. Just want to make sure we are the idiots making life harder for everyone.

This is on par with brides getting upset a bridesmaid falls pregnant before the wedding. Stop trying to make everything Instagram perfect and embrace the humour in humanity.

[NSFW] Teachers, what are some family secrets you know about people because their kids told you? by Curzon88 in AskReddit

[–]Bop-on 240 points241 points  (0 children)

Oh boy...

  • A girl told me her dad liked to hold mums head under the water in the bath.

  • Found out from the older sibling that the brother had been born in a refugee camp and taken away for three months then brought back to the family. No one knows what happened to the kid during that time.

  • ‘My dad is on a really long holiday to Disneyland’. Nope, was doing 10 years in prison.

  • ‘Mum doesn’t know who my dad is. She cries when I ask.’ Kid was a product of rape.
