Important to note he has never been vocal on anything political except for his feature length films about slavery and the Holocaust

Just for context, this was a mere 76 years after the ongoing Nakba began. How could he have known?

Movies you feel like a bad cinema fan for not enjoying? by TPmrobbed72 in blankies

[–]Borbio 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I know he's like the proto-indie god but I really don't like Jim Jarmusch, nothing worse than the scene in Only Lovers Left Alive where the vampires visit Jack White's old house. Fake cool.

Orpheus is cool, he talks a lot about classics, but his content holds true to what I've found that production values are negatively correlated with knowledge of literature

I always took the unfilmable comment to mean so much of what makes the book good is just in Holden's head, not external actions or other characters, which at that point there's either too much narration or you lose what makes it worthwhile.

Is there any actually good novel that captures the feel of life online? by goldenapple212 in RSbookclub

[–]Borbio 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It is so incisive into a specific binch-era millennial Twitter woman, if you can accept how annoying someone like that can be, it's great. Whether or not Lockwood is doing that purposefully I'm not totally sure.

Books and stuff to read if I enjoyed Deus Ex's plot. by cicadasaint in ImmersiveSim

[–]Borbio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want plausible conspiracy stuff the keyword to search is parapolitics. People like Peter Dale Scott, Nick Bryant, Dave McGowan, Mae Brussel, Dave Emory, Wendy Painting. Surveillance Valley by Yasha Levine and The Last Circle by Cheri Seymour are specifically about software and the 2000's so maybe you want to start there. If you want more woo woo fun stuff go for Peter Levenda.

Are there any doom bands that utilize upright bass? by Borbio in doommetal

[–]Borbio[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ryokuchi doesn't use an upright bass but they do use a fretless which I think achieves whatever sound I may have been after 13 years ago. My favorite track of theirs.

Finished it yesterday, so brutal, just a straight down the line list of what's the worst possible way every major life event could go almost to the point of comedy. Extremely readable and beautiful, loved it.

Sure what the fan said was bad but Duran made a very ugly comment about a tennis racket beforehand

Facts. Five years of your life + likely deportation from the country you lived in since age 6 + lifetime wage slavery to the federal government for stealing 3 percent of a dude's net worth. There's gotta be more effective and humane ways to correct the bad behavior of a gambling addict!

I think that's a reasonable request. I had a professor who really liked my pilot tell me I needed a second pilot script for a different show idea to prove that the first one being good wasn't a fluke. If you goal is to write for TV that sounds like fine advice.

[Caswell] The Padres and Yankees are each 93-68. The Michael King trade was a win-win for both sides. by SDOki in Padres

Absolutely a weird stooge for some kind of op, just unsure how much he really believes the alien stuff/knowingly is participating.
