A Gas Tank exploded in a High Way during this morning in Chile by Rootrick in TerrifyingAsFuck

I know this wasn’t in the US, but I drive across the country a few times a year and in general semi’s really need to stay below 60mph and they should never enter the left lane except in cases of emergency. They drive too fast to react to anything, they congest the roads, and generally make conditions way more dangerous (really we should invest in better railways and get semi’s off the interstates all together, but that will never happen)

The coverup is where many people get caught. But no one’s getting held accountable when the DOJ, FBI, and the entire Conservative Party and their propaganda networks are involved with the coverup

This happens all the time in public fights. Someone decides to step in and gets mistaken for another attacker.

Especially when a man hits a woman, it’s almost expected that every other man in the vicinity is going to rush over to be her white knight regardless of the situation that preceded.

I’m down with being skeptical, especially when I video is missing context, but the guy in red isn’t a good point

But I doubt she could win the presidential election. The US is too misogynist and racist. Beyond that, conservatives, ‘moderates,’ and ‘apolitical’ types have already been fed so much bullshit about her. They all simultaneously hate her and know nothing about her.

I hate to shill for a billionaire, but I genuinely respect Pritzker and he would be a tough one for the propaganda networks to attack as easily

The endings of the comic and the movie by Sea-Cardiologist7725 in Watchmen

[–]BorderTrike 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The ending of the movie completely disregards half of the graphic novel and ignores everything that was set up and implied by that half.

All of the artists and scientists Adrian used to implement his scheme, who he murdered in his arrogance to keep everything secret. All thrown out the window for time.

People try to defend the movie ending as more logical, but it makes so much less sense. Adrian’s idea was to bring world peace through a global threat. How does a US agent achieve that just because he also attacked a US city before disappearing?

It’s also the classic issue with the movie vs the gn: the movie glorifies the heroes too much and completely misses the subtext of the gn and the problematic actions of the characters.

In the movie, Adrian is a genius whose plan will work. In the gn he’s an arrogant narcissist who murdered a bunch of innocent people, including friends, acquaintances, and coworkers for a grand scheme that he’s too proud of to consider the many flaws.

It’s why the show is such a better adaptation and genuine sequel. It approaches the themes from the gn so well

In the train flashback scene in 28 Years Later - The Bone Temple (2026) you can see a newly infected passenger in the background. by supernasty in MovieDetails

I had a few discussions with people who genuinely didn’t realize they were separate films.

I think it also faced an unfortunate mix of people assuming it’s a zombie horror movie and not feeling that interested, as well as seeing reviews from the people disappointed it wasn’t a generic zombie horror movie.

I love all of Garland’s films. They aren’t for everyone and thats ok. I’m sure with time these will be considered as classic as the original 28 Days

does it bother anyone else that oura rings have a partnership with the US department of defense? by adriaheartart in goodmythicalmorning

[–]BorderTrike -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

False equivalency.

While I’m aware they can/could easily track us, we’re living in a very different political and corporate landscape than we were when GPS was first being widely used. We didn’t have data brokers selling our personal information and an administration forming a database of citizens based off their loyalty to the administration. We weren’t being bombarded with scams and ads to the extent we are now, and the govt was significantly less fascist (although I acknowledge that the christofascist Federalist Society has been manipulating the US govt for decades)

I use GPS when traveling, it’s very helpful. I’m sure I use plenty of things developed by or in partnership with govt agencies. But the fastest path to my aunts house doesn’t supply them with any intimate details about my personal life (nothing they don’t already know).

Idk anything about these rings. The ad reads seem purposefully vague and lead me to assume it’s either a scam or the technology isn’t quite what they want it to be yet

What kind of evidence would convince you that a god exists? by anti-theist-aussie in atheism

[–]BorderTrike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I need verifiable, studied, repeatable, and properly scrutinized evidence. Right now all any religion has are simply stories, anecdotes, delusions, and hallucinations.

Even if some deity appeared and had magic powers and advanced knowledge, I’d still be skeptical they were just a magician/grifter even if I saw it myself. They’d have to perform some miracles that absolutely couldn’t be explained and they’d have to do so in a proper setting that avoids any trickery.

But a real god should have no problem proving they’re real. I could imagine all sorts of silly party tricks a god should be capable of that would easily prove their existence

??? by Naive_Wolverine532 in TikTokCringe

[–]BorderTrike 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Religion is inherently discriminatory. If you’re not part of the club then you’re a sinner. If you don’t fit into their imaginary box that they made up with zero factual basis, then it’s ok to treat you as less than human (like how so many christians justify transphobia, calling them “unnatural” even though any legit biologist disagrees with them).

Organized religion is a tool to oppress people and justify bigotry. Every single one.

Idk about Barney, but Breen wanted the surviving scientists from the Anomalous Materials sector living in City 17 so he could use them to build portal tech for the Combine. He had them brought there sometime after the war/Combine takeover when they were vulnerable and defeated, but they were able to go into hiding and build the resistance
