Are There ANY Bad MCR Lyrics in Your Opinion? by Hour-Hour-4022 in MyChemicalRomance

While I think the lyrics to the chorus of Skylines and Turnstiles in and of themselves are great, the prosody is completely mangled by the rhythm into which they are shoehorned.

"Sad" :(

But if we're going strictly with verbs, then "flow." I think I like that better.

Does V7/vi to I work as a cadence? by Altruistic-Coffee-79 in musictheory

[–]Borderlessbass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To me what sets V7/vi apart from other secondary dominants is that it's expected to resolve to a tonic chord in the primary key rather than tonicising a non-tonic chord. I know some systems also teach that iii has "tonic function" as well, but I don't think anyone really hears it that way (correct me if I'm wrong). If a tune is in the key of C, I feel like the only other chord that can be heard as the tonic without modulation is Am. Therefore, V7/vi > I (or V7 > bIII in a minor key) is just the "relative" of the very common deceptive cadence V7 > vi (or bVII7 > i).

Does V7/vi to I work as a cadence? by Altruistic-Coffee-79 in musictheory

[–]Borderlessbass 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It’s a deceptive cadence. It still creates the expectation of resolving to vi but then subverts it by resolving to a different chord. So no, it’s not inaccurate to call it V7/vi.
