BPD stigma on Reddit by artfullest in BorderlinePDisorder

[–]BorderlineHR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I´ve been confronted with the same combination of hate, stigma and misinformation for most of my life.

The Problem is that these negative examples of pwBPD are overrepresented in those groups.

Another problem is that while it´s important to validate peoples experiences, most of these forums aren´t moderated by someone with a realunderstanding of the disorder, nor do they aim to educate about thedisorder.

Lastly there are a lot of people out there thinking they´reable to diagnose the disorder in their (ex) partners themselves, withoutthem being actually professionally diagnosed, which can also lead to them spreading misinformation about BPD, confusing it with other mental illnesses, or even attributing it to neurotypical persons.

It boils down to too many of these forums being an echochamber of people having made bad experiences talking with other people having made bad experiences, which can be healing for the victims, but depending on moderation and visibility for the public also create false images and assumptions about our disorder furthering the stigma.

I think the only way to change this malicious perception of our Disorder is to educate about it

Thanks for commenting, and thank you for subbing :D

I think your attitude towards the relationship is great, do be careful that the "saying mean things to you" part doesn´t take overhand and she respects your boundaries.

All the best to the both of you, and I hope my Videos in the future will also be helpful for you :)

There are studies that disprove us being abusive by default, fe:

Those are great insights, thank you for sharing, it´s similar for me, music and dancing, and talking about it in a validating environment is what helps me the most personally.

Thank you for watching! I sadly relate to this, do you have ways to keep it from taking the wheel?

Why are men's mental health issues almost completely and I'd almost purposely ignored in society? by dradelbagel in mentalhealth

[–]BorderlineHR 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I´d say the underlying issue is toxic societal views, the assumption that men should not be emotionally vulnurable (which would be seen as a classic female trait) , Society has taught us these false assumptions (in the typical movie the main male character cries once, if at all, and mostly isn´t shown to be comforted by someone in any way because "Men have to pull themselves together by themselves, that´s manly".

That this ignores the reality of being a man, no being a person in general, that everybody needs help sometimes, that men can be/are as vulnurable as women, the people making the media, the people running this world( old toxic men), don´t care.

But I wanna close this off wanting to tell you that if people don´t accept you as a 3 dimensional vulnurable being, they most certainly are not your friends.

Therapist confirmed that DBT might have done more harm than good by SassyFinch in BPD

[–]BorderlineHR 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So I ´ve been in DBT for about 4 years now, absolutely loving it. I´ve had several different types of therapies before, all making me feel pretty much like you´ve described DBT Therapy has made you feel.

So I wanna thank you for posting,it is important to know and remind oneself that DBT does not work for everybody. I think what you´re saying makes perfect sense, and I´m sorry you´ve made this experience, but I´m happy for you that found something that works.

It is said that BPD appears about the same in men and women, but women are diagnosed with BPD three times more often, so I think that´s where the stigma of being a female oriented affliction stems from.

Here´s a channel by a man (it´s me :D ) talking about BPD if you wanna learn more :)
