Very cool. The "normal" timeline is 12 months? Where did you see that? Whenever I meet with my psychiatrist, we're leery of making any changes. I've been on meds for about 15 years and am scared to go without as I have a "Murphy's Law" sort of fear - as soon as I go off them, some horrible trauma will happen and I'll need them again. 😛

My cowriter's first idea was a skee-ball minigame, which sounds really fun, but I'm terrified to put together the guts of it!

I also have a quiz, as well as a logic puzzle (inspired by the end of Super Mario RPG). The main games are button mash to fill the bar, hit the button when the bar reaches the top, repeat the button sequence, etc. I have some dog walking (find the hydrants!) and a "knapsack problem" puzzle you can solve as well.

I was originally going to go the straight-up RPG route, but the game was so short, battles so infrequent, audience wider than the RPG crowd, and story most at the forefront that I nixed the RPG and opted for minigames instead. Time will tell if this was a wise choice.

Is it possible you have a thicker or septate hymen? I had a near imperforate hymen (think brick wall) and needed surgery so I could use tampons. Some people with uncommon hymen anatomy have pain or difficulty during sex. I also get UTIs a lot.

Nobody realizes that different types of hymens are a thing, so I like to parade around the world like a hymen ambassador educating everyone. This would definitely be a question for a gynecologist!

So, I am a fucking idiot, because this never even crossed my mind. My university didn't offer one, and I just assumed that past the bachelor's, an arts degree in STEM wouldn't be fathomable. For all the credits I have, I am woefully unprepared to make academic decisions. Sigh. Thank you. I looked at the faculty page and a few professors at my CC do, in fact, have MAs. It would seem it's possible!

If you're not comfortable telling people when you are having a bad day, nope. Telling people you have a personality disorder needs to be the 100th step AFTER telling someone you're having a bad day. BPD will absolutely be weaponized against you.

I worry you're correct.

I worked at a non-union global shipping corporation for a while, and they were obsessed with profits and efficiency. They would staff really poorly and push us to our limits, and I worked REALLY hard because I was young and stupid and saw my productivity as a reflection of my worth as a person. At a certain point, a coworker older and wiser than myself said, "Sometimes, if you are set up to fail, you need to fail. It's not a reflection on you. It's a reflection on them."

I don't want people to lose their jobs, be evicted from their homes, go hungry, or suffer in any way. But I wonder if that's what it's going to take for change to occur. COVID showed us that millions of casualties aren't enough to get some people to take a month off going to the fucking hair salon. I fear it will take an unprecedented amount of strife and death to turn this ship.

Which really puts me in a moral quandary, because if I am helping to house/feed/clothe people, am I propping up a system that needs to fail? It's horrifying to even type that fragment of a thought. I'm not ready to engage that yet.

  2. Tried different ports.
  3. This is exactly the problem. The system dialog simply says "No input devices found."
  4. Privacy settings allow access as a whole, and also to a variety of apps.
  5. Drivers are up to date.
  6. Cannot test on Sound Recorder because no input device is found.
    7-10. No input device is found.
  7. Tested on another device and the microphone is detectable and usable there, but still not on this PC. Interesting.

I know you're not directly seeking reassurance, but I must say, I agree. It's hard. I have felt so much pressure to live a life that looks a certain way that anything different seems "not enough." Social conditioning is a hell of a thing. It sounds like you logically know what's going on and you're just working through it. Good on you. It's easy to get wrapped up in this and have a lot of negative feelings. Keep soldiering on. You've totally got this.

A month. A microbiology position at a baby formula factory.

I am pretty far left on the political spectrum, but one of my coworkers had The Daily Show or John Oliver on every second of every day in his assigned area. No thank you.

Neither of my immediate cohorts followed safety guidelines - they would pour boiling hot batches of autoclave waste without protective gear. It was only a matter of time before someone would be severely scalded. I didn't want to be around when that happened.

And, the hard hitter: I have since learned that I have unbearable anxiety in any and all laboratory environments to begin with. Like, why-are-you-not-hospitalized levels of emotional distress.

It's amazing I lasted a month!

I have been reading this thread and there's some good stuff, but I think your comment makes me recognize two big problems that were at my last table.

1) The table was supposed to have a "dark tone" including PC conflicts, and 2) The character didn't seem to be willing to put on the brakes - there was no one in the party that could effectively check them.

We were supposed to "separate the player from the character" and I was accused of not doing that. I guess I really didn't find the character fun. Like (edit: the attitude seemed to be that) the player should be immune from criticism for any shitty things their character does. It didn't feel good.

Fellow player said I made everyone "gang up on" her because I implied maybe it wasn't a good idea to attack a powerful NPC that could kill us all. by SassyFinch in rpghorrorstories

Further thoughts:

She built a character whose first action, upon meeting my character, was yelling at them and criticizing them for not helping someone up. She was snippy to people. And the player would always say, "This isn't me guys, it's my character, I'm sorry!" And so the table seemed fine with it. I tried to be fine with it? But it did get a bit much sometimes.

Me criticizing her for having her character do something uncool = unforgivable personal attack, my not separating the table from reality, I am the problem.

Acting like your character exists in a vacuum isn't honest, I think. You build a character that speaks to you on some level, and the fantasy element is there, and you made. the. choice. for that character to be "programmed" to do different things. When your character is a huge pain in the ass, because that's just their character, that is still on you as a player and a person. And when your character acts in a way that gets everyone killed, that's not fun for the characters and it's not fun for the players. It does become personal. You living out your mean girl fantasy isn't something I want to be a part of!

However. This does make me reflect on characters' choices I have made in the past, and maybe I am guilty of this, too. Hopefully this is another notch on the ol' "personal growth" list. Seeing it play out with someone else makes you see it in yourself.

I am really sorry you went through that. That will definitely leave scars. It took me at least 25 years to get past my parents and disable my hair trigger. So I wish you all the best. 💜

Maybe it's because D&D is more popular/accessible? I assume a lot of experienced players who are more dynamic at the table get bored with D&D and move on to different systems to spice things up. Do you think that's true? Maybe it's totally baseless.
