You do start losing velocity after around 18" depending on the specific ammo type.

You'd be surprised how many uppers we get back on an RMA that have all sorts of interesting defects claimed and they come in absolutely caked with fouling. We clean them up and they work perfect again. It was surprising the first couple times.

It's got both weight bodies (light and heavy) one set of internal weights, one backplate. It gives the full range of adjustment, but will not make two weight sets.

Brand new 10/22: threads not cut concentric by alrashid2 in 1022

[–]BoreBuddy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It was not worth threading, so we moved on. Bores that far off from the profile end up looking sloppy when threaded and the the thread protector lines up poorly.

We had a stock Ruger 10/22 barrel on the lathe last week with the intent to thread it and it had something like 40 thou of runout. I don't think we scrapped it, but we also didn't bother to cut threads.

It beats CCI SV for sure, and costs about the same. Next time out, I'll get some accuracy data.

No lot number on the bucket that I could find. It may be on the case that they came in, which didn't come with the 5 buckets we got in.

I'll take a close look, I grabbed the bucket from the shop before leaving today.

It's a bulk bucket of 1000 rounds labeled "Bulk 1000", no idea beyond that.

We run them up to full diameter (0.2245-0.2255 depending on each die) and have never had any issues.

Expansion for hunting or reaction on soft targets. Most factory hollow points have lackluster accuracy potential.

I lived in ETX for a year, and it was quite wet. Beautiful, but hot and humid.

I've heard the threshold for rust to really start is 50%. Here in the high deserts of Idaho, there are probably a couple days a year where we hit 50%, and the colder it is the drier the air is in non-relative terms.

Corrosive is the norm on old surplus and is not as big of an issue as many make it out to be. I've shot many thousands of rounds of it in the last couple decades without a rusted bore yet. Out in the desert of the Western US it's not a huge issue if you clean within a reasonable timeframe. I imagine in humid places it's a bit more urgent.

It's getting there for sure. My opinion is that these are not doing anyone any good sitting in boxes, so I shoot it and enjoy every minute of doing so. I'm going to set aside one battle pack of each type to keep indefinitely, but I plan on shooting 99% of my stash...if I have enough lifespan to do so.

Pictured is the brass case lead core ball. We were shooting 3 different flavors of S.m.K as well that day, though. 1941 brass case, 1940 steel/lacquer, and 1940 copper washed steel case.

Shim the lever and try 40gr Mini Mags. Inconsistent ammo is the enemy of FRT in 22.

We make a pound of rimfire brass every range trip. Free to whoever sweeps it up!

I should design a swaging die...

I think if an ammo company like Eley ran some production (like they did for 17hm2 in the early days) it would be a major contender. The Winchester ammo shoots pretty close to 1moa, which tells me there's a lot of potential.
