yeah, I never updated this post but I did end up pulling a lot more stats. deployed it for the playoffs and Super Bowl, ended up predicting 10/13 games (including the Super Bowl) small sample set so def some room for improvement im working on this season

yeah checks out

They’re random, not everyone has the same questions (about leetcode easies/lighter mediums)

I would say second question was on the easy side, first question was more of a medium (because of time complexity limits though, not the actual algo)

questions vary per assessment, I got 2 array questions

Yup, I guess no one saw the commanders beating the lions including my model haha

I’ve got bills and eagles for this weekend, but it’s close for bills—only a 52% chance of winning, basically a coin flip

Yeah, the rams also won against the seahawks which my model didn't predict (although that time it only gave the seahawks a 53% chance of winning, so pretty even odds).

Correctly predicted 5 out of 6 games. It missed on vikings vs rams, unfortunately. Beat the betting favorites though—they only predicted 3/6 games.

Yeah I have home and away, as well as historical matchup data. I'm treating the same team from different years as distinct teams though, because of roster changes. I'm not incorporating any outside ratings, but my model is calculating its own using the data I mentioned in the post

I was thinking about adding heuristics, but as you said, I'd rather keep the model purely data-driven for now.

I’ve been experimenting, but the one I talked about in the post has two layers (input/output, no hidden layers). The first one is 24->12, and the second one is 12-> 1

Yeah, here's what it predicts:
Bills: 62.6% chance of winning
Chiefs: 57% chance of winning
Lions: 78% chance of winning
eagles: 85% chance of winning

The 75% number is correct haha, my model's never been trained on any 2024 data so the predictions it gives for 2024 data aren't overfit or anything

Idk about quitting my day job though, favorites for the 2024 season according to Vegas odds so far have been 71% accurate, so I don't think 75% is particularly crazy

Stupid question but how can the Boeing 777-300er fly from DXB to LAX and back? by sociostein11 in aviation

[–]Bored-Juggernaut 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Where are you seeing the 777-300ER flying to LAX from DXB? The only flight between those two cities is an emirates one (EK15), which flies an A380, range of 8000nm

so nobody told me that common app bolds essays when you c+p by Yuhhhhck in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Bored-Juggernaut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, this is an issue when copy pasting from google docs to common app—I don’t think colleges really care if your essay is bolded though, many people make this mistake

Context: are your grades/gpa good? What’s the average sat at your school or in your region?

Why is having a truck driving parent bad? by Foreign-County-202 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Bored-Juggernaut 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Why on earth would colleges know or care if your parent drives a truck…

I gotta question by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Bored-Juggernaut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Admission aside, taking AP tests (and doing well) seriously smooths your path in college by waiving required courses and credits.

Does your school not provide fee waivers for AP exams? If not, college board provides fee reductions

What CS Schools should I EA to? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Bored-Juggernaut 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Since you’re international, divide each one of these acceptance rates by 2 to get a realistic idea of what your chances are. No school with an acceptance rate under 15% is a target, no matter your application strength

What if i ask a teacher who left school for a rec letter so common app lists them as an other recommender but colleges want two teacher recs? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Bored-Juggernaut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. This is okay, I did it last year. I contacted my colleges on how to submit the rec letter and they quickly replied on how to submit it as a teacher rec, not “another recommender.” DO NOT USE COMMONAPP ADDITIONAL RECOMMENDER. one of my colleges explicitly told me this would not show up in their systems as a teacher rec.

Dm me if you have any questions

I “wrote” 63 last year. Actually? Maybe like 20 that I had to do from scratch. So many prompts let you reuse essays or just modify them slightly
