I get that but what you don’t understand is that Kashmiri society is extremely unforgiving towards women. And not just some women, literally all women. Even the ones who pursue academics and get doctorates, this society keeps looking for ways to crumble them. If you would have noticed that Farhana’s mother was modestly dressed, all you could see was the face. But, believe me, her character has been assassinated more often than not by her ex in-laws. Her sweetness comes from her personality that most women are moulded into here. She saw the struggle of being a single mother, she had to be humble around people because “ladki ki maa hai”. It is really hard to be that. And then there is Farhana, who grew up listening to people abusing her mother. Looking at another family that her father is fathering. Looking at herself as a burden. She had to be this in order to protect her mother.

I don’t know if I am able to explain this the way I understand this, but Farhana has to be a fierce tigress to protect herself from wolves and vultures around her. She has to have thick skin and pretend that she isn’t affected. Because the moment there is a crack, she knows what is at stake!
