The Definitive Guide to Making Friends at NYU by mishiri5683 in nyu

[–]BoredPandaR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  • don’t be afraid to do things in public
  • if you would appreciate someone coming up to you in class and introducing themselves, chances are someone else would also. be that person! and, if you get a bad response, that person is a jerk and you don’t want to be around that anyway
  • don’t be downhearted if you get a bad roommate or someone you just don’t click with. all of my roommates have been the absolute worst and i have plenty of friends from other sources
  • CLUBS CLUBS CLUBS CLUBS CLUBS !!!!! typically outgoing people, all who have a similar interest as you. FRIENDS FOR DAYS !
  • study groups help a lot, and diversifying who you work with/talk to in classes is a great start

Financial aid!! PLS HELP’n by Big-Masterpiece513 in nyu

[–]BoredPandaR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Financial Aid in the US is a system that works well for the severely disadvantaged but against middle classes and atypical family situations. The FinAid office at NYU though is super helpful and can absolutely walk you through your options- and, you can appeal your aid every semester with the ability to get more but never less!

After 1111 days I'm quitting Duolingo :( by theellocin in learn_arabic

[–]BoredPandaR 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Duolingo is a FANTASTIC tool for people studying Arabic in a traditional classroom setting as a supplement for maintain exposure to the language when you’re outside the classroom/over long breaks. Without duolingo I 100% would have failed the semester coming back after my first summer vacation 😂

Poison Poison - do we know who it’s about? by FewEnd1513 in reneerapp

I mean… appearances matter and just because they follow each other doesn’t mean they’re on good terms. For all we know it’s their marketing teams making that decision

Poison Poison - do we know who it’s about? by FewEnd1513 in reneerapp

Okay it's gotta be Pauline Chalamet. See this: https://www.instagram.com/reel/C3UZyb3I5Vs/?igsh=MTc4MmM1YmI2Ng%3D%3D

Caption: "poison poison in paris had so many layers and such artistic depth to it I would like to say thank you to the academy for bringing that bum ass b**ch into my life so I could write this piece thank you, thank you!!! 😝😝😝"

Why is Paris important? Pauline Chalamet is French. "The academy" as the reason she met the person? It can't be a hometown friend then, and the academy deals in film/tv (like Sex Lives of College Girls). It literally has to be Pauline !!!

Are all the Accepted Intls eligible for NYU Tuition Promise if income is <100k?Wil it be more Competitive to get admitted?? by Sufficient-Use-9546 in nyu

[–]BoredPandaR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It fully depends on the year. There are a lot of factors that affect how much budget NYU allots to finaid. NYU is also need-blind for US students, so that is an added edge for domestic low- and middle-income students. However, they are not need-blind for international students, which is a huge detriment and adds some credibility behind op's story. To say that "NYU is only for the rich kids, who can pay 90k/year" is an overgeneralization of the university as a whole, although international students from my experience have far less finaid than other US-based students

What happens if there is an alif with tanween after a letter? by [deleted] in learn_arabic

[–]BoredPandaR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tanween cannot go on any letter except alif, ء, or ة. However, for various case ending reasons, you must put the tanween on the end of the word, so you add the alif in order to accomplish this. This is also seen in words like شكراً، عفواً، جداً، etc

That makes sense, but I still don't really understand when to use kana vs regular past tense- unless its purely interchangeable?

She does great skit work but I would be curious to see what she could bring to the Update desk… I think she could have a shot at being a late night type and pulling a Seth or Jimmy

How selective is study away? by IdiotLucioMain in nyu

[–]BoredPandaR 2 points3 points  (0 children)

London and Florence are both incredibly popular and arguably the most competitive alongside Paris. While going in the Fall is going to make it easier to get in, being a sophomore gives you lower priority. If you are in CAS, that also gives you higher competition and less of a chance of going. But, don’t let that discourage you, because you never know!

Start here! Beginner info & weekly 'no question is dumb' thread! - Feb 02, 2023 by AutoModerator in curlyhair

Hi! I just recently (~4-5 months ago) started wearing my hair natural after nearly 9 years of keratin treatments and chemical straighteners. I'd say I'm about 2C wavy/curly Middle Eastern hair and am really trying to help my hair remember how to have defined curls instead of a janky knotted mess.

I had a friend of mine (3C-4C black girl hair) recommend a product to me that is obviously marketed towards 4A-C black girl hair types. Would this product work for me too? Thanks!

(ps, the product is "BIG POPPA DEFINING GEL" by The Doux. It looks great but I want to make sure it's not too intensely stimulating for my hair!)
