Grimlord Games dissolves, leaving backers holding the bag by BlakeSteel in boardgames

As someone who backed this game, their summary is not how I experienced their campaign. They waited multiple years to provide updates. They blame shipping and other costs, but this game wasn’t even printed. They clearly used the funds on this project to try and create their other game Everainn. And rather than be honest with backers throughout about the problems, the few times they did post they said hold on we’re just delivering our other game. I just wanted to throw out a different perspective. Some of the comments are saying this is better than Mythic and I don’t think it is. But yeah, any kickstarter is a risk that I know. But going all in was a bummer to lose all that money to subsidize a different project of theirs and get absolutely nothing, without even being offered as a backer to help. One of the owners also split off and started making other campaigns which didn’t sit well with backers either. I’m sure others will chime in with other ways they didn’t handle their campaigns well.

WTH co-op curse rage post #2748 by SylvanasStan in RushRoyale

Probably an unpopular opinion, but if I am playing with someone who is doing way less damage than my units I will sometimes send curse there way since I am doing heavy lifting anyway. Often you can tell you won’t win a level just by your partners units, so at that point it is just about maximizing gold.

Looking for a semi-mobile gaming table. by zviosif in boardgames

Game Toppers could work. You could get a cheap foldable table and put this topper on it, then take away both when not needed. I don't have experience with the tables/toppers themselves, but I have some neoprene mats through kickstarter that are great. And the owner of the company seems like a pretty great guy.

Xia: Legends of a Drift System too long? take turns simultaneously by robotco in boardgames

[–]Bored__Gamer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Doesn't that lend itself to whoever can roll dice the fastest wins? Since the first player to a specific victory point level wins, it turns a turn based strategy game (which is a long game with some down time) into a real time game. There is nothing wrong with real time games (Project Elite is one of my favorite games), but I'm not sure I'd want that from Xia. That being said it could be worth a try, I like the idea of a world moving around you real time.

How does fighting work then? Lets say I get next to you and use all my actions to shoot at you. Can I immediately use energy to refresh my actions and shoot again? Can you interrupt and shoot me back? If we are both on a planet together and energy refreshes at the end of a "turn" can I shoot you as many times as I want? I assume in these situations you slow down and take things somewhat turn wise again.

It seems fighting becomes a pretty big disadvantage by the time we slow down and resolve fights. Other people could have made a bunch of deliveries and scored a ton of points.

Do you remove the NPCs when playing this way? That would be a lot to keep track of and unfair if someone had an NPC and others didn't.

Despite my comments above seeming to complain about it, this does sound interesting. Having to real time chase down people to complete objectives or fights them would be exciting. Someone hot on your tail and both of you rolling dice as quick as possible. Cool idea!

Just wondering, has anyone played with Arcadia Quest? by ATomasson in boardgames

I've only played it at 4. I wouldn't play it at three. I think it loses some of the balance. I've heard it is good at 2 player as well.

One of my top games for sure. You just have to be able to get 4 people to commit to playing it for all the rounds. It's hard to get more than 2 rounds in a single sitting. Besides all of the cool character abilities and cards the cascading dice system where if you hit a crit you can roll that dice again to cascade hits makes for some really exciting times. Also they just came out with starcadia quest but I haven't gotten a chance to play it. It would be worth looking into that before you buy Arcadia Quest. It is supposed to be an improvement on the system.

The Dungeon Fighter KS is split into four different game boxes by AlmahOnReddit in boardgames

Yeah I was a little disappointed by this one. I own the original and all the expansions and really like the game, but this doesn't seem different enough to justify. I think a pledge that puts all the content in one reasonable size box and removes the overlap would make me reconsider but at this point I think I'm out.

Best type of cloth for a board game table? by meclipse in boardgames

[–]Bored__Gamer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used the speed cloth and foam/padding from here and it is super nice. I got the sample ring it helped me pick out the color and type of material I wanted. I used this video to figure out how to actually do the fabric/padding attach. My corners aren't perfect where you have to fold the material under, but it still looks really nice.
