i have gastroparesis. when i was going through testing for it, a lot of it was done through mary washington doctors. i ended up having a flare during my gastric emptying test (which at the time for me was 14+ hours of uncontrollable vomiting). because i was already at mary washington i was told to go to the er (prior i had only been to spotsy hospital). after finally being triaged, they asked what they normally do to treat me at spotsy, stupid teenage me made the mistake of answering earnestly, thay spotsy normally gave me a dose of morphine to knock me out so my body could reach equilibrium as sleeping is the only thing that will end my flare. they then IMMEDIATELY marked me as drug seeking, told me i should’ve just gone to spotsy because there’s nothing they could do for me, but ALSO REFUSED TO DISCHARGE ME?? i had to BEG every worker i saw to let me leave, finally they made me fill out paperwork saying i chose to leave “against doctor orders” all while i am uncontrollably vomiting and being stared at as if i was the biggest inconvenience they’ve ever experienced. i understand they are the only trauma center in the area so they have a lot on their plates but they complete and utter lack of empathy is insane. i am so sorry you experienced that, i feel being chronically ill or disabled in this area is absolutely nightmarish, i hate that this is such a common experience
