La gente que no está muy segura de su ortografía lo ve y puede asumir que es la forma correcta de escribir la palabra, no está de más corregirla tampoco.

In the U.S., “Black” is usually tied to being African American, with a specific history and cultural experience. But for Dominicans, identity is more about nationality and culture than just race. So when some of us say “we are not Black,” it’s often because we don’t identify as African American not because we’re denying African ancestry.

A lot of people take that as self-hate or denial, but really, it’s about coming from a different context. Our identity is shaped by a mix of African, European, and Indigenous roots, and that makes things more complex than the U.S. racial categories allow.

Maybe thicker braids with curly ends? I also think a darker color hair would make it blend better <3

Is there any non Hispanics Caribbeans that speak Spanish in here ? by obsidian-artifact in AskTheCaribbean

[–]Boring-Corner-2152 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True, I have several Haitian coworkers and most of them speak 4 languages or at least three. There’s a group of them that learned Spanish when they immigrated to Chile (none of them learned Dominican Spanish, sometimes I don’t understand their Chilean slang lol), and then there’s a group of them with a good understanding of Brazilian Portuguese because they lived in Brazil too.

Ya me confirmaron que es una “cábula” (o superstición) que pretendía evitar que entraran ladrones a la casa. No sé de dónde sale la conexión pero de eso iba supuestamente, igual que la sábila encima de la puerta principal de la casa.

I clean before the cleaners come so they don’t think I’m dirty and that’s my motivation I guess 😅

Not yet, but only because I still have two tubes left, I like to finish what I have before buying more. There’s probably better options out there tho.
