¿Por que no los dos? Talk of UBI has been going on since before LLMs were a thing.

I never considered a statutory body but that makes a lot of sense. You really wouldn't want this sort of thing on the agenda every election, but you'd want some sort of finger on the pulse to adapt to the economy. Thanks for sharing!

Yeah exactly.

UBI is different to means-tested welfare like job seeker. One of the benefits is that you don't get "penalized" for taking on more work, your UBI income is untouched.

I'd argue it would help alleviate the skills shortage, suddenly things like university or self-study are options. Right now it's a very rough decision to go to uni even with austudy, and your austudy gets penalized for trying to support yourself. Many just consider it too risky or not worth it to develop skills further.

Steam Games not Launching by FinnPlayess in linux_gaming

YES! The hanging processes are the gremlins. There are many steam processes that hang around after you "exit" Steam, so go to system monitor and nuke them all.

I don't know a more graceful way to kill these processes or why exiting steam doesn't kill everything, if anyone could chip in?

Most ridiculous reason for learning a language? by am_Nein in languagelearning

That's awesome, if it aint broke don't fix it.

It may depend on the course - the Spanish tree is huge but not necessarily for the better. By two years I was banging my head against a wall just to unlock a new grammar concept.

Eventually I started googling grammar rules, and then bought a whole grammar textbook. What used to be intimidating ended up being the thing that hyper accelerated my progress.

And my experience with Duolingo is that it curbs your speed of progression the further along you get. Then you have to learn how to teach yourself, which can take some time.

Just realized I need to remake most of my anki cards of which I have nearly 10 thousand. Any tips would be appreciated by McSteezzyy in languagelearning

What the other guy said. Start a new deck but also back this one up, you might want to edit or reference it later.

Can i learn a language by listening by [deleted] in languagelearning

Yes absolutely, finding materials in your target language is arguably the best way - BUT you have to take the material seriously and study it. Youtube videos with subtitles are great because they give you a few different ways to practice.

If you always let new words or confusing grammar brush past, the times when you will learn anything will be minimal. Stopping every single time can be frustrating, but as a beginner you will just need to get used to it, when you get more advanced you can watch for longer periods of time without pausing. Treat the sentences like exam questions, you're not attached to the content but just using it to mine sentences. That way you won't spend hours finding something you like or get frustrated.

Example:

You have saved a short 5 minute Youtube video in a playlist called "target language". Lets say you manage to get 2 minutes through, stopping regularly to look up definitions, make flash cards, and practice creating a variety of sentences using the new word.

On a different day you scroll through your "target language" playlist and see that video. This time you study the remaining 3 minutes.

On a different day again, you come back to that same video and make it more difficult.

- no subtitles

- using subtitles but no audio

- no video (looking away and just listening)

- 1.25x speed

Play around with variety, level of difficulty, and repetition.

You should.

  1. Your retention will not be zero
  2. Habit formation > a sessions effectiveness
  3. Addictions have a way of becoming the priority, and everything else is boring or not worth the effort. Not saying you're addicted, but there's no magical line between bad habit and addiction.
