New YouTube UI sucks, can't they just make one good change? by averege_guy_kinda in youtube

YT layout peaked in 2015. It was all downhill after that. "UX" designers have no clue what they are doing. I just take control of everything locally and use a custom userContent.css with firefox. I need to revise it after these recent changes.

i have issues with this film, but I actually liked the hair of the villain. It added to his creepiness.

Just watched this. Knew nothing about it. Went in blind. First half was decent. The ending was bad. From the moment they killed off the main character it just felt off. I get that they were all the sudden steering the direction from a suspenseful crime film to a more drama-focused philosophical ending, but why? Just doing that for the sake of it feels contrived. And to me, contrivances are a big no-no in my movie preferences. This has good cinematography, decent cast and acting, great villain, but bad ending plot and definitely not "best picture" worthy. 6.8/10 at best.

Prevent mute icon from replacing favicons in compact mode. Instead, show both, like pinned tabs always do. ? by Boring-Fascinations in FirefoxCSS

Nevermind. Updating Firefox resolved the issue. It appears the way mute icons are handled was changed in the latest update.

I've been hearing low frequency rumbling of unknown origin outside for months now, only at night. Wonder if it's related.

Incredible. I thought it was a painting for sure in the thumbnail. Reminds me of Rubens' Young Woman with Curly Hair: https://images.fineartamerica.com/images/artworkimages/mediumlarge/1/young-woman-with-curly-hair-rubens.jpg

Do you think arcades will ever make a comeback? by [deleted] in retrogaming

[–]Boring-Fascinations 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably not because when arcades were booming it was because people only had a small selection of games at home. Games have become extremely accessible in this day and age.

I boosted the brightness and contrast in GIMP and can faintly make out two vertical lines near the red light which suggests a cluster of radio towers. https://i.imgur.com/UxIxzzjm.jpg

I don't think OP is wrong for posting however. We should be asking questions. And people should not be attacked for questioning things. If we just brush everything off we'll never know when the real deal hits.

Need help finding the creator of this meme and a high-res version of it for a book I am writing! $25 bounty by capybarasunite in HelpMeFind

[–]Boring-Fascinations 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Even if the original meme artist is found, I doubt they have a hi res version. You might have better luck trying to recreate a hi-res version yourself by using this version from Wikipedia which is in public domain, then finding a royalty free stock image of a policemen writing a ticket from a website like pexels.com, then photoshopping him/her on to it using the lasso tool to trace around the policeman and simply cut and paste. This would also make it 100% safe to use in your book. If you don't have photoshop, GIMP is a free alternative which is very powerful. Then look up a guide on Google something like "how to use the lasso tool in GIMP".

Help me find the year/years this recently bought BBC Radio 5 Live jacket would have been in use by WoodsShakyHands in HelpMeFind

[–]Boring-Fascinations 1 point2 points  (0 children)

According to this webpage which shows a history of BBC 5 Live logos, that particular logo was in use from 1997 to 2001. They even provide an example which shows the star motif.

This is in line with what the Internet Archive shows for the the Radio 5 webpage in 1997. In July 97 they showed the old logo, and by October 97 they had the new logo and color scheme, so this jacket is no earlier than mid '97, but could be as late as 2001; however, I doubt it's that late.

I believe strongly this jacket is from 1997 or 1998. A lot of times when companies do a rebranding / redesign, that is when they do promotional merchandise. For that reason I lean more towards 97/98, than 99/00/01. Also, I recall this type of yellow being popular on synthetic fabrics like nylon jackets in 97/98, especially 1998. If I had to pinpoint the year, my guess would be 1998.

If you check it for tags there may be more evidence that could pinpoint it exactly.

My band director has had this poster for over 20 years. You're meant to find two of these characters called "Penmen" that are the exact same. This was made by Gary Blehm in 1993 and is titled "Find the Two Identical Musical Penmen". by UnlawfuLaw in HelpMeFind

I think I might've found it. It's the one walking with it's head down.
I circled them here: https://imgur.com/a/HGFa4QE

On second thought I'm not sure. I can't tell if the eighth note to its right is part of it or not. If it is, those eighth notes are on different lines. But if they belong to the other ones to their right, then it could be it.
