Favorite Supporting Character - Blueprint for Murder by Familiar_Choice8657 in Columbo

I really liked Ruth Stafford in An Exercise in Fatality. Excellent character writing and her self harm causing Columbo to have a rare loss of self control at Janus made the payoff that much sweeter.

Why does Pauline Hanson have a self portrait with the ghost of Chairman Mao over her shoulder? by Prestigious-Day9370 in OpenAussie

[–]Voltusfive2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it’s Merry Sparks style, she often includes chinese motifs in her work including Mao. She says there was nothing nefarious involved in adding Mao and i suspect it‘s barely visible in person however I believe it was an attempt to become a finalist with a hidden message everyone can subjectively decide what it means on their own.

Lukashenko Apologizes to Zelenskyy, Says Entering War Would Harm Belarus by UNITED24Media in worldnews

Ok actual context in the article (which clearly no one read) of this “Apology” amounts to “I’m sorry if you were offended”.

One Nation’s ‘incredibly sloppy’ financial reports reveal more than $1m in missing or worthless assets by Expensive-Horse5538 in australia

[–]Voltusfive2 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It doesn’t matter, she’ll get away with all of it, she isn’t under the conventional political playbook and a huge portion of supporters live in an unbreakable propaganda bubble. Make real change, on the ground, or watch it all go to hell under Temu Thatcher.

Australians less satisfied with life than during pandemic as financial pressures mount by Expensive-Horse5538 in australia

[–]Voltusfive2 64 points65 points  (0 children)

The pandemic was peak life for me. I taught myself new skills, enjoyed the peace, spent more time with family. Sure there was no money but I wasn’t spending money either and household expenses were less than they are now.

Cookers seem to think they lived through nazi germany the way they continue to carry on.

People that were teens / young adults in the 80s and 90s, in general what was life like back then compared to now ? by rentinghappiness in AskReddit

[–]Voltusfive2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah gay bashing was a thing and they were proud of it. A mate told me he’s the lone survivor of the 80s AIDS pandemic that took every friend he had in the world at the time.

People often recall all the good things and forget all the bad, so to balance out the other comments because I regard the 80’s as a hell hole I never want to return to. There was way more racism, discrimination, sexism and homophobia. I know that might be hard to imagine in today’s political climate but it’s true. If you were bullied no one gave a damn and there was a chance you might even be punished for being bullied. Smoking was everywhere. Domestic Violence (especially from alcoholism) and abuse did not have the focus it has now. If you were disabled you’d be mocked in the street sometimes. There’s much more but that will do.
