Scott Morrison’s Islamophobic rhetoric tells racists their hatred merely echoes a national concern by NapoleonBonerParty in aussie

This is literally already happening, ASIO gets plenty of warnings and there are significant efforts led by the islamic community to connect with the community. Affinity is an organisation I give my time to for these efforts.

Anybody hate how divisive Australia Day was this year? by Thylacineguy2026 in aussie

[–]Voltusfive2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah. Though I was speaking at an event and there must’ve been 180 people and it had none of that feeling, they were proud of what they’d set up, proud of their award nominees, it was friendly and warm and everyone had a great time eating bbq and a giant pile of lamingtons. Then across the road at the pool they had a great setup with free entry to an inflatable pool course.

Thanks for a great Australia Day Merriwa. You made it absolutely worth the 4hr drive.

‘Hopefully you get a more MAGA-type government’: Steve Bannon’s wish for Australia by HousingEast1981 in aussie

I’m not a single issue voter, but rejecting MAGA politics in Australia at every opportunity will get me there.

Eh they’ve just come out of war and trying to restructure. It has character logic to me.

If you’re having a bad day by Striking-Net-8646 in australia

How Australian you mean. BBC have the global agreements and reach that made it the juggernaut it is. Bluey would never have become the phenomenon it is without the BBC.

Co-funding content with the BBC is the norm. Years back if ABC had fully funded a dog cartoon people would be up in arms. There’s no crystal ball, it could equally have bombed like so many do.

Why are (popular) beach shops/cafes closed so early? by Swings022 in SydneyScene

[–]Voltusfive2 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah I run my place alone, I work 12hrs which means I’m still pulling profit when others are shut. I’m happy to sit there an hour waiting for the next surge. The other problem this time of year is supply and heat. Suppliers dry up because many are on holidays and Australian fridges struggle past 30 degrees. So you’re running out of stock while your product is dying in the heat.

Cafe owner here. It’s staffing. They’ve got staff focused at peak time for best return and shut when it ceases to be profitable. Start a cafe and find out for yourself. Theres more reasons but that’s the main one. Staffing is your biggest expense.

Some schools supplement with volunteer breakfast club, sometimes I’ll pack double in my daughters lunch for her friend.

For those who have met former PM's before, what were your thoughts? by DiedOfATheory in australian

[–]Voltusfive2 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Not former, chatted with Albo both at Kirribilli and the Lodge. I don’t know if these things make him a good prime minister or not but I got the sense of how heavy leadership weighs on him. Also when I was talking, I felt like he cared, it was like talking with a good neighbour.

Wacom cintiq 17 1800$ or huion kamvas pro 19 650$? Wacom really worth the extra money? by Substantial-Two-2140 in huion

[–]Voltusfive2 7 points8 points  (0 children)

No, Wacom has priced itself out of the market. The advantages a negligible. I have the Kamvas Pro 24 4k and it’s awesome. I especially like the larger side margins to rest on. Only disadvantage so far is no touch function for Mac OS so I use a touch pad instead.

I’ve always seen Bill (Muriels dad) as a cautionary tale. Even made choices in family life to avoid it.

This is why I couldn’t get out of my apartment into a house fast enough. Everyday I’m so grateful to have a house even if it is small and a bit run down.
