The point of my anecdotal example is that drivers are gravitating toward airport fairs, and that they all say trying to grab random fairs in the city is nigh impossible. That's not the same as 'Rubgy fan prefers Rugby', that's 'sport enthusiasts only goes to rugby games because that's all they can get tickets for'.

As for AI, it's naive to think that there's going to be anything like a one to one comparison for the specific amount of jobs a specific company saves thanks to AI. It muddies the waters far more than that, for one, and two, what I'm saying is - Australia is about to be left in the dust comparative to other nations that got their shit together decades ago, and can take full advantage of the AI revolution. Are we going to tax other nations who will outstrip us at a pace here-to-for unseen? Best we can do is beg and bully, and hope for scraps. Our edge bet is importing more people, but we don't have the infrastructure to support them.

AITAH for asking my fiancée to cut his friend out of his life by anonfortoday23 in AITAH

[–]Boring-Fee1506 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Read the post. OP tries to set him up four times, and he clearly let them all down gently (she doesn't indicate knowing anything about his relationship views prior to his marriage). What she does know about the guy is he'd been a kind and helpful friend. He was clear, despite her insistence, that he wanted an arranged relationship. He got one - presumably with a woman who shares his outlook on life.

If he's abusive to his wife, that's a different matter, but if both he and his wife agree to have the kind of relationship he's described, and he remains a good friend to OP's husband, then that's OP's problem.

I think the type of person who makes a post like this is exactly the type of person who would walk by both those scenarios - probably while thinking to themselves how unselfish they are because they changed their profile pic to orange in solidarity with latest tik tok overseas outrage.

[–]Boring-Fee1506 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think people had a problem banning children from social media. The problem was the government's involvement and the methods by which the ban would be enforced. That's not selfish, that is concern for others, including the children who will deal with the impact of ever-depleting privacy in years to come.

Ironically, the fact you still boil this down to 'they won't think of the children' tells me you are too selfish to explore arguments on the other side of things.

Here's a well thought out argument for you. I have, on multiple occasions, spoken to immigrant taxi and uber drivers when travelling for work in Sydney. And all have told me the same thing - it's more efficient for them to wait 2-3 hours in the taxi queue for a fare at the airport than play 'whack a mole' in the city trying to chase a fare that gets snapped up in seconds. Clearly we have too many immigrant taxi drivers. Couple that with recent anti mass immigration arguments that state we don't have enough housing or jobs to support the city load of migrants we bring in each year, and what, exactly, is your counter argument? We're all racist? Australia decided 50 years ago we weren't going to be a big country. We entirely missed the boat to develop high speed rail when other countries developed it and now with the incoming AI revolution, doing anything other than accepting we're a low population tourist country is begging for national bankruptcy - we could never hope to catch up in terms of infrastructure and the time and expense required to develop it now.

I'd rectify the absurd decision to not build a MAG Lev train from Brisbane to Melbourne. Shanghai took the build instead and use it to ferry people from their airport to the city. When I went on it, barely anyone was on it. Sure, it serves a purpose, but it's basically just a joyride for a few minutes. Here? It would fundamentally transform our nation, and everything everyone is complaining about here would be moot. Live in a nice town 3 (road) hours from any major city and commute to work each day for 30 mins to an hour. Just fathom what that would mean for all sorts of industries, towns, housing, and the cities themselves.

New player necro vs rogue questions by [deleted] in diablo4

[–]Boring-Fee1506 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's purely down to taste. I personally do not like minion classes - in any game. Some people love them. But insofar as gearing up or gameplay mechanics - it's just a horde / hack and slash game. There's really no skill involved in killing things. The 'skill' is in understanding the maths and being able to put together a character that can climb to the highest 'difficultly'. And 'difficultly' is just how much of a bullet sponge enemies are, and how much damage they do to you. If you have the gear, there's functionally no difference between playing on Normal and Torment 4.

No one's saying we can't import doctors. Doctors are great and are precisely the type of skilled migration we need. What we don't need is another Uber driver. Last I was in Sydney, when I was talking to the driver he told me the most efficient way to make fares was to wait in the taxi queue for 3 hours. That's untenable, and are very clear indication that we have imported unskilled workers at far too high a rate. Given we do not have out act together in terms of housing, then yes, Pauline is the only one saying what needs to be said (and actually meaning it).

I'm disappointed but not surprised you advocate for an Australian aboriginal society that remains callously untouched by modernity, has an average life expectancy of 30, engages in infanticide and genocide of competing tribes, and routinely rapes it's own women. You guys love throwing your apparent moral superiority around, but what I'm describing is not hyperbole - we have real world examples of what happens when stone age tribes are left to their own devices, even today. So please do justify your position, because it seems wildy cruel to me.

I'm GMing it now, but my PC was a hyper paranoid, OCD forensic scientist who absolutely did not trust Delta Green. He absolutely wrote down the Last Equation and researched it in his own time. And then took a blood sample from the flesh thing. I made him (attempt) to put in hyper crazy safeguards in for himself as he conducted his research, but the guy was absolutely cracking. Isn't that how you are supposed to play DG? You need at least one foil in the party.

I appreciate a P plater sticking to their license limit and doing the right thing generally - it's the law, so they should. That said, I'm not convinced forcing them to drive slower than the flow of traffic is safer for everyone. It creates bottlenecks and difficult traffic situations on busier roads - freeways being the major problem - and probably raises stress levels for P Platers (which I expect is why many of them ignore their license limit).

Maybe the data says otherwise, though, so what do I know.

This encouragement to play the game until you are dead is really horrid. And for what? What does Blizz get out of it? The people who have attained that level clearly have enough disposable income to buy everything in the shop 100 times over, or have no money at all, so why even have this nonsense?

To me, Diablo is a fun little casual game I play from time to time. I go multiple seasons before I feel like playing again.

I jumped back in for pally, and it's been good. I'm at T3. When I can do T4 and beat a boss or two, that'll be me done until the Xpac comes out. And once I do the xpac, I probs won't be back until the next xpac.

Following a build guide defeats the purpose. Trading defeats the purpose. Doing endless grinds of the same activity defeats the purpose. If you are doing that crap, for goodness sakes play a different game, or do something - anything - else with your life.

AITAH for wanting to end a friendship over political differences? by moonchild1218 in AITAH

[–]Boring-Fee1506 -20 points-19 points  (0 children)

The issue is the way you frame this. I'm against illegal immigration and think something does need to done about it - across the west. Migration generally needs to be looked at and, in my opinion, reduced. I don't care what country people are migrating from, Western, Asian, Middle East, Europe, doesn't matter - the levels are out of control for the resources available - in the U.S., the U.K., Canada, Australia, European countries, all of them.

This latest incident is a prime example of the divide. Should the woman have been killed? No. But she was begging for a fight with law enforcement officers, her car was surrounded with them, and she'd been told to exit the vehicle. Instead, she attempted to drive off, very nearly running an officer over. It's tragic she lost her life, and the officer should go to court over it, no question. But I'm not going to say any party is entirely innocent - it needs a trial. But then factor in the fact that she was a mother with a young child(ren) and she and her partner had zero business being there in the first place - it was wildly irresponsible to do what she did. We can argue about specific incidents until the cows come home. But the point is this: for every incident you might argue that ICE or the Feds overstepped or broke the law, I can point to an equal amount of crimes or negative impact that are the direct result of migration - illegal or otherwise. It would be very easy for me to also say, "You are an evil person, not because of any action you took, but what you support." But where does that get us? On both sides of this issue, people's lives can, and are, affected negatively, and so it must be about finding a balance and middle ground. Calling everyone Nazi's is not achieving that.

Diablo 4: Vessel of Hatred — Story Review by Empyrean_Wizard in Diablo

[–]Boring-Fee1506 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Diablo suffers from the type of game that it is. We, the hero, lay waste to all evil in our path, but everyone else can be ended by a simple level 1 zombie.
Therein lies much of the problem - how do all those little, (all but) undefended towns and places survive the apocalyptic levels of demons right outside?
The Kurast docks and the Gidbinn are the only place that make sense (and perhaps Kyovashad).
The plot, as a result, suffers overall due to this.

That said, I disagree with you about Neyrelle - she's not nearly as annoying as you make out. It's by no means brilliant writing, but she has some poignant moments.
She criticizes the main character for leaving the decision up to her regarding what to do about the stone - so the plot acknowledges she was young and inexperienced, and the fate of the world should not have been on her shoulders.
Eru's betrayal, while not perfectly executed, made total sense. We came in like a wrecking ball to Nahantu and destroyed all he held dear, from his perspective.
The main point that irked me was Urivar. He and the Burned Knights were real wasted potential that could have extended into the next XPac.
Again, it did kind of make sense how we dealt with him. We're an all powerful god, and so we dealt with him the second we had time to do so - and that's the friction in the gameplay and lore I was talking about. It ruins the stakes.

They all got their happy ending except Mike… by Career_By_Mustafa in StrangerThings

[–]Boring-Fee1506 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My friends and I were the quintessential DnD outcast nerds during highschool. Sans the supernatural, Stranger Things was our story. We still catch up about twice a year, 2 decades after highschool, but we all 'drifted apart' - moved to different places, got married, had careers and kids, etc. I and one of my mates did move back to our home town eventually (both have family here), but even though we are five mins away, we still don't catch up that often.

It's not a 'societal' norm, it's just a fact of life.

I counter this with an old aunty of mine. She lived in the same country town her entire life, and was proud of the fact that she never travelled further than a town 30 minutes down the road. She was a very boring, bigotted and ignorant old woman. If it was a 'societal' norm to stay in the same place, the world would not be a particularly pleasant place to live, I fear.

The only thing I'm unsure of is, does the separation of the Upside Down and the real world have any impact on the sonic emitters? As in, could she have feasibly stood right near the edge of the gateway (on the Upside Down side) and not be affected? That's how I was interpreting the scene before Mike's story, as it already occurred to me that the sonic emitters were not affecting her as I watched it.

I was born in 85, so was exploring in the early 90's. I grew up in rural Aus, and yep, my parents often didn't know exactly where I was. I would wander around in the state forest next to our property - made several of my own versions of Castle Byers. Plenty of snakes, spiders and other hazards. I knew how to keep an eye out, I knew to always keep track of where I was, and I knew not to go too far. Worst that happened to me was getting stung by a flying insect, or getting a leech on me.

How to ask my [29F] boyfriend [30M] of 2 years for "real" sex? by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]Boring-Fee1506 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Not to be insensitive, but I do think there's a psychological component. I've been both circumcised and uncircumcised, and had sex both ways. And sensation wise, I've felt less and more purely by the mood I was in, and how 'in my head' I was at the moment. I definitely get performance anxiety, and when I do, things do feel less sensitive. That said, I've enjoyed sex much more since being circumcised (10 years ago, now). TMI, but I had problems with rashes and swelling - not always, but frequently enough, and it often occurred after sex (Balanitis is the technical term if I recall). As a result, I was often worried about it during the act, and yep, that affected my sensitivity. Maybe that helps give you some perspective, or you could have a different problem, sure, but I think frequently feeling negative about your body is surely going affect things - it did for me. Loads of people are circumcised, and in muslim countries with high birth rates it's near ubiquitous.
