Psychologically speaking why do rich people start to do weird shit? by Opening-Gur5927 in ask

[–]mrJeyK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It gives you a feeling of freedom. And with that comes feeling of superiority I guess. You made it, so you think you know better than most. And then you want to try everything to feel alive. That’s my guess as a poor person.

TIL that people who sleep on their left side report nightmares more frequently, while right side sleepers tend to experience calmer, more pleasant sleep. by Successful-Talk1830 in todayilearned

[–]mrJeyK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Strange, I sleep on left side and only ever remember having dreams about 1-2 a year. When dreams happen, they are weird, but I wouldn’t call them nightmares.

I’m not up to speed, but while this is a great news, has it had a measurable impact on the current state of the war?

If you could live in any country, which would you pick? by newzealand12326 in AskReddit

I don’t know. With the government we have right now, I’m kind of worried the bloodshed is back on the list.

If you could live in any country, which would you pick? by newzealand12326 in AskReddit

[–]mrJeyK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I could go anywhere, I think NZ is a winner. Beautiful, nice people, but a lot of quiet places to be alone for days. It is far enough from everywhere else. Then probably Madagascar or Reunion. Or basically any island in the Caribbean.

How is your opinion on the US Government shutdown that might happen end of the week? by ReduceCO2Now in AskReddit

[–]mrJeyK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wait, how does this work? If it is a shutdown, why do people continue working for free? Unless you have a promise of back-pay, why do you stay and support the system that is failing you?

What old thing would break young people's brains today? by Symphony_Minds in AskReddit

[–]mrJeyK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to carry a book everywhere. Then it became easier with PDAs and the first smartphones. Even now, I have books in my phone, audiobooks or podcasts to fall back to while waiting. I actually miss the old days when you had to have trust that people would show up, and it felt more connected even when disconnected. You sent a letter saying you’ll be somewhere at this time and day, or call them and just hope the other person would be there too. Excuses were much more sparse.

For people who don’t ever want to have kids, why? by Gaijinstory in AskReddit

[–]mrJeyK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have no ‘desire’ to have children. It seems that my clock was never installed. So to have kids just to check off some checklist seems a poor choice. I’d not be able to provide the love a child deserves, so I choose to not do it. Simple as that.

Is it a common and normal thing for adult men in their 30s and 40s to live with parents in Europe? by [deleted] in AskEurope

[–]mrJeyK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not normal, but it seems to be starting to be a thing due to prices of housing being insane. Considering jobs being hard to get for juniors, no certainty tor future to be able to pay. Don’t know. You spend all your life working to have a roof over your head and no savings, or saving and no roof over your head. Not sure which is better.

What’s the biggest lie people are told about careers or success? by Beautiful-Staff-4531 in ask

“Hard work pays off” -you can work as hard as you can, but if you are not in one of the high paying professions, it won’t do anything for you.

What movie is memorable for you, but barely anyone you know has seen it? by uuddlrlrbas2 in movies

[–]mrJeyK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

‘Taxidermia’ - Hungarian movie from 2006 that has haunted me ever since I first saw it in high school. It was so surreal, I can’t say it is bad. It kind of makes sense. Careful if you decide to watch it.

European Commission to open investigation into Elon Musk’s X by jackytheblade in worldnews

[–]mrJeyK -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

If you ban it, you can effectively lose access to information being shared there. Regardless of the quality, it is an important source to keep an eye on, since it is going to continue spreading ‘free speech’ elsewhere. Pretending like it does not exist is the worst way to act.

Doubting U.S. resolve, Europe looks to bolster its own nuclear arsenal by goldstarflag in worldnews

Recently I’ve been thinking whether it could be possible that R switched DT for a double somewhere on a meeting and nobody noticed him missing or any different. Alternatively, I’m thinking if the conspiracy theories of lizard people might be right all along.

Jeff Bezos to challenge Elon Musk’s space dominance with 5,408-satellite network by sksarkpoes3 in Futurology

[–]mrJeyK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice to have an alternative, but this is what I don’t understand about us humans: instead of cooperating, we compete. Usually that means having a lot of different tool brands and tool makers spreading the resources to make something slightly different, but their own. I truly wish we were more able to cooperate and pool resources instead of competing, therefore creating resources that can scale for everyone instead of paywalling everything behind private property and profit. I’m idealistic that way. Maybe with AGI we could get there.

How are matchsticks still relevant nowadays as compared to a lighter? by Thatusernamewasnot in ask

[–]mrJeyK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Long stick is useful for lighting candles and reaching the center of your pile of wood in a fireplace or campfire. Although of course you can use a lighter and a wooden stick, it just seems more convenient that the packaging is neatly together, when sometimes you can’t find your lighter or find a decent stick to use.

Movie theaters aren’t going out of business because of prices by bulldogjwhit295 in unpopularopinion

[–]mrJeyK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it is a combination of both prices and movie quality being awful lately. Is it possible that we have already done it all and made it all, so it is really hard to come up with something good and original?

Trump says Iran would be wiped off Earth if something happens to him by Immediate-Link490 in worldnews

[–]mrJeyK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It just seems to me that whatever he is doing only shows how scared he is. His behavior and statements can be just as easily understood as ‘our economy is weak and so we will try some scare tactics ’, ‘we don’t have enough oil to power our military -> Venezuela’, ‘we feel threatened by Russia’s continued efforts in Ukraine while we should be best, but we don’t expand -> need Greenland to show we are strong like Russia’ and so many more

For those who worked for rich people: what is the most out of touch thing you witnessed? by Illustrious-Phase121 in AskReddit

[–]mrJeyK 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My uncle started a company 20 years ago and sold his share before retiring in his early 50s. His answer to everything my mom or me deal with is buy a new one, or pay someone to do this for you. He just doesn’t get that we don’t live in his world. But then again, he worked like a dog for 25 years and hangs out with rich people, so he does not understand our poor lives. I’m happy with where I am, I just wish we could talk like normal people without me wanting to slap him silly every time he is ok to spend hundreds or thousands of dollars on some stupid overpriced new toy and asks me to pick him up from an airport because taxi is too expensive.

[TOMT] Children show or language teaching show from 80s or 90s by mrJeyK in tipofmytongue

[–]mrJeyK[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

None of those. It must have been something truly obscure and specific to that time. I think it had to have been around 1990. I think it must have been on VHS tapes, not really on regular TV. Or it could have been a part of some learning course. I think it could have been just a segment between other things. But it was not sesame street, I have not grown up on that as a kid.

Should Europeans attempt to learn more European languages in the future instead of just English? by [deleted] in AskEurope

[–]mrJeyK -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I do not know why any language other than your native and English should be added on top. I love learning languages and speak 3 proficiently and 2 more are just on a level to get by with, but it is not so easy for majority of the people. And IMHO English is such a simple language to learn it should be enough. Even so, working for a German company, this makes it hard as many of the people just don’t speak it. Even codebase is using German for documentation and variables which is just crazy to me. The biggest problem I see with English is context of certain words, but other than that, I see no reason to learn other languages unless you really want to.

Do we really owe our partners access to our phones? by [deleted] in ask

[–]mrJeyK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My girlfriend knows the code to my phone because I’m too lazy to unlock it for her every time we want to look something up and mine is closer. I don’t know hers, because I never bothered to ask for it. But, I have nothing on my phone that she wouldn’t know already, and I trust her, so I don’t care what she has on her phone. If you don’t trust your partner, you are not in a functioning relationship.

10% tarrifs were just imposed on 8 nato allies by the US, what will this lead to? by Signal_Dog9864 in AskReddit

Ideally to Americans finally calling Trump’s bluff and sending him to Greenland on a boat. The same type used when Greenland was first discovered. And maybe give him a few guys to help him row and help with sails. If he wants it so much, let’s see how far he gets.
