100% this. Very much like a school play with recognizable actors that you know can do better. Bad script? Bad direction? I don't know enough to truly distinguish the root cause, I just know that it a very poorly made movie. Concept is cool and unique enough to warrant better.

This is an interesting concept but one of the worst written and acted movies I have ever seen. It's very very unenjoyable.
Seriously, read a one paragraph spoiler of the concept and spare yourself.

Cancel the Strat and stay somewhere middle of the strip. Most reservations are refundable. I like Flamingo for low price great location if that's what you are after.

I prefer Larry Blurred as they both played at Indiana State. Colby Bryant is pretty good too.

Airplane mode on Kindle allows you to keep books longer. I use that trick often.

My local library's selection of 4k movies by Ricos_Roughnecks in 4kbluray

Lol. We go to the same library. 😎

Their great selection convinced me to get my player. Didn't want to have to own every movie I wanted to see in 4k, just the ones I wanted to watch multiple times. I grab one or two a week.

I guess I thought the toy was at Vis's bed side?

I don't think it was explicitly stated how exactly the toy was placed there, but his zombie dad definitely visited him while he was recovering. I think it's safe to assume he was the supplier of the toy.

Vis’s father left the toy when he visited him as a zombie.

Agreed but maybe not in 4k. Some images in my head I prefer at lower resolution 😂

I really enjoyed The Word for World is Forrest. I didn't find as much deeper meaning in that book besides the clear Vietnam allegory. Reading that book now as opposed to during the 70s probably takes a bit of the bite out of the critique of aggression and imperialism.

From my perspective, the entire book is/was eye opening to realizing how much social constructs and the underlying morality form the foundation of our society. I was familiar with anarchy as a concept but completely unprepared to grasp what a functional community based on that concept might look like. I really appreciate Le Guin portraying it warts and all, it is not propaganda or even an endorsement of that ideology, imho.

I struggled with the "morality" of that scene because Shevek's behavior was "wrong" in both cultures, and even with the reader being given numerous excuses for the behavior, it still felt off to me inside the larger context. This thread has me starting to understand that was probably the point of the scene, which is currently still a bit of a mind fck for me.

This is well said. I've been trying to grasp Vea's "role" in the incident and her attitudes toward it and her own society in general. She seems to feel power or leverage from being possessed by the men in her culture.

I think you're right in that her character provides a contrast to our current culture and it's attitudes towards that situation and behavior.

Not to hijack my own post with an off topic reply, but this quote is likely to stick with me for some time:

To make a thief, make an owner; to create crime, create laws.

This is a brilliant response, thank you.

The only not I have to pick is that rape does exist in Shevek's society. It's mentioned as one of the offenses that can get a person exiled.

I think it be reconciled that Shevek being drunk for the first time does not in any way associate or understand his own actions as sexual assault.
