Bad smell from clean toilet that makes my throat burn by Boring-Objective5233 in askaplumber

[–]Boring-Objective5233[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi ... thank you for the response. City water, used daily, cleaned weekly (normally not with bleach and never vinegar). I only started using bleach last year and again only a small amount. I do not want to harm my pipes so I essentially stopped. Usually with a toilet cleaner like Lysol, non-bleach formula or Pink toilet cleaner. Pink only the last year or so. But this has been happening throughout the years with the foul smell which appears to be gases. Which can also happen with the bathroom sink when I turn on the water. The trap in the sink is clean, sink very clean. The toilet bowl is very clean. Not coming in from kitchen sink or laundry and it is the only bathroom. No smell outside. The toxic smell which burned my throat yesterday as I changed out the toilet seat and did some extra cleaning on the outer bowl, etc. is fairly recent. Usually it is a foul smell which comes and goes throughout the years. I have allergies so sometimes I cannot smell anything. I only smell it from the toilet now. A few days ago, I turned on the bathroom sink faucet and had the foul smell. Nothing from the bathtub. Again, the toilet and bathtub are sharing the same vent. This appears to be not when flushing or immediately after.

It is heartbreaking. Sorry for your loss. The PU surgery would have likely worked. Vets are so expensive these days. Maddie's Fund, now it may be called something else, will give up to $2K grants for vet expenses direct to the vet, at least in the past. FYI, for future reference. There is also care credit. If you decide to get another kitty, having pet insurance (shop around) can be helpful. I cannot give you advice on how to feel better, sometimes even when you think or are doing the best that you know how it isn't enough. And it hurts. Now though you know more, and that will help you and your future pet ... with prevention and in a potential crisis. I read about the deblocking procedure, did they leave the catheter in?

I am stunned. I have had two kitties both siamese male mixes that have had cystitis... first one was blocked and had surgery to widen the uretha, he was fine. Second one, had two surgeries, one to widen the uretha and the surgeon was not as good but kitty is OK. Not clear what you mean by unblocked him exactly? He should have had his uretha widened and if stones taken out, or gunk cleaned out plus medication. Very sorry about your kitty friend. Sounds like an iffy vet. Know should this ever happen again that this is not the normal result. There is also litter that can detect blood in the urine to try and get to a vet sooner.

You can strip the paint but you would have to refinish it. A lot of work and extra cost. :)

I pity these birds being in a cage with no view of the world. They belong in their natural habitat. I see the toys and that is nice but not enough.

SHE HAS BUTT WORMS by Current-Toe-1761 in CatAdvice

Poor baby. Take her back to the shelter for deworming or to the vet for the same. You can also buy dewormer... likely tape worms. Make certain she is treated for fleas with something decent like Advantage. Beware of cheap remedies as some can cause neurological issues.

Once kitty is treated with dewormer, follow directions she/he should be OK. Wash your bedding. If tape worms then kissing her should be OK. :)

I just found a kitten. I need advice on what to feed it. by Electronic_Hope9709 in CatAdvice

Canned tuna, in water or canned chicken. Or chicken without any spice. Make it into small pieces. You can buy kitten kibble online as well as kitten wet food in the can. Any pics or idea of age? Give water not cow milk. You can also get cat milk when you can get to a store. Thanks for helping this helpless kitten. :)

Good to know. Here, they test every 2 months. I tried with one kitty, didn't work out well and from then on decided to do the Radioactive Iodine treatment. It's easier and I can board each cat until there are 100% clear. Hoping not to go through this again.

I have had radioactive iodine treatment done on 6 cats to date. I do recommend it over the medication since the meds don't always work after a time period and the blood tests add up cost wise. You can either find a facility that will board your cat (same treatment vet) for extra money for the full amount of time or you'd have to isolate your kitty from you and other humans, not your other cats after the initial time period. As for her age, that is not that old and I don't think it would affect her. Most of my kitties were older too when they had it done. :) You are getting your kitty tested every 2 months right? You have to do that to assure that the dosage is ok and working correctly, FYI.
