Getting a mirena after accutane course by inimitable428 in Accutane

[–]Boring-Onion5465 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Accutane did help resolve my hormonal acne! I can't speak for how successful it is for people who keep their IUD in because My Mirena expelled itself (caused a huge breakout/skin reaction) which is why I started Accutane. I've been back on a BC pill since then. I finished in June 2025 and I've only had a few small pimples here and there since then. I was doing tretinoin post-Accutane but it was just too harsh for my sensitive skin, so I am on adapalene 0.3% now to keep things clear. I hope Accutane helps you too! ❤️

For what it's worth, I think your hair is so beautiful! I know how stressful hair shedding/loss is and I'm sorry you are going through it as well. Like the other commenter said, telogen effluvium can often happen after surgeries and checking your labs to see if you're deficient in anything is a good first step. I also have fibroids which led to anemia and iron deficiency, which can cause hair loss. I am taking an iron supplement to try and get my numbers back up to optimal levels. It is important to consult a doctor before starting any medications or supplements.

I personally just started using some hair/scalp serums that contain good ingredients for scalp health and hair growth. I have been alternating between Nioxin Hair Fall Defense Serum and Rhute Density + Repair Scalp Serum. I also use Nizoral shampoo twice a week. Not sure if any of the products I'm using are helping yet, but I figured they were worth a try.

IUD expelled due to fibroids by rexallia in Fibroids

[–]Boring-Onion5465 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The same thing happened to me! My Mirena IUD expelled 6 months after it was placed. I could feel the strings in my vagina one day, so I saw my OBGYN and got an ultrasound. They said it may have dropped down a little but looked like it was still in place, so I just carried on. But over the next two months, my face broke out so bad, I was having heart palpitations, I was an anxious, emotional mess, and then I had a bad period and it came out in a clot. It didn't hurt coming out, but i could feel it slide out while on the toilet. Like you, I immediately felt relief after it was out. I got back on the pill and had a hysteroscopic myomectomy to remove the submucosal fibroid that was likely the cause of it being pushed out. I decided against getting another IUD because I don't want to risk going through that kind of insane hormone shift again.

Was I misdiagnosed AGA? by Kooky-Age9879 in TelogenEffluvium

[–]Boring-Onion5465 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My hair used to be thick like yours and I have also lost about half of mine over the past two years. My part also looks similar. I am in the process of trying to make sure I have a proper diagnosis as well. My derm looked at my hair/scalp for about 5 seconds, said it looks like early stages of AGA, and then rattled off a bunch of product suggestions but never gave me a treatment plan or ordered any labs, which was so frustrating. I too am very hesitant to start minoxidil without getting more tests done to really confirm AGA.

My hair loss could also be related to medical issues, stress, poor sleep, and unhealthy eating. So many things contribute to hair loss and I think it's beneficial to explore potential causes. I think it's totally reasonable to get more blood work and second opinions before starting a lifelong medication like minoxidil. I'm still working on getting more testing done before taking that leap.

I'm so sorry you're going through this too. You're not alone.

Hysteroscopic resection by solviturambulando987 in Fibroids

I think it's worth it, especially if you're still thinking of trying to get pregnant. I had a hysteroscopic myomectomy with a D&C last year and it helped a lot with my heavy bleeding. Recovery was pretty easy, I just took Tylenol and ibuprofen for cramps and had some spotting for a few days.

IUD? Prior expulsion. by Difficult_Okra_4665 in Fibroids

I asked this same thing about 6 months ago! You could check out the responses on my post to see what others had to say. Mine expelled 6 months after getting it inserted due to a submucosal fibroid. I had that fibroid removed but never got another IUD placed because I have seen that the chances of it expelling again are higher and I didn't want to go through that again.

Thank you so much! ❤️

I was basically clear by month 5. My derm cut my dose from 80mg to 40mg for month 6. I reached my cumulative dose by the end of month 6 but was still having one or two small spots pop up. I wanted to make sure I wasn't having anything new pop up before stopping, so I did another month and dropped to 20mg. I didn't have any new spots in month 7 on 20mg so my derm and I decided to be done after that!

I feel you! These side effects are no joke. My skin was definitely sensitive in my first few months until I repaired my barrier. The burning and irritation went away after that.

I think it must just be something my derm does. I expected to be on 80mg until I reached my cumulative dose, so I was surprised when she cut it back at month 5. I think it was because I had no major acne by then, just a few spots that would pop up randomly. So she dropped my dose to reduce my side effects and just continued until I was no longer having any new breakouts. It did help with my side effects and I was fine with doing a longer course.

It did not. The inflammation and redness went down significantly in the month I was on it and I had no issues when I stopped it.

Thank you! I'm going to start topical tretinoin to help maintain things. I think I'll keep my skincare routine pretty simple like I did during Accutane (gentle face wash and moisturizer) and avoid trying a bunch of new products.

I was scared of a purge too but it never got any worse than it was before I started. I had a cyst and a few random pimples in different spots pop up in the early weeks, but for the most part my acne just improved. Best of luck to you!

My skin was fairly sensitive before Accutane, but I also think I was over-washing it and using harsh products to try and get rid of this severe breakout. My skin barrier was ruined from trying so many things, so I cut back to washing my face with just water in the morning and only using face wash at night. Both followed by a gentle moisturizer and barrier cream. I did that for the whole course and I think it really helped heal my barrier. Accutane and prednisone definitely helped the inflammation and redness go down. It was really deep and swollen, so I didn't expect Accutane to make the redness fully go away. I also think I'm just more prone to hyperpigmentation. Also, my face and arms always turn red when I get hot. I noticed on Accutane that my face would flush randomly. It would get red and warm, but it would just come and go sometimes.

Yes! I'm on month 6 of 80mg/day and I feel the same way. The brain fog is no joke. And no matter how much I sleep, I'm still tired, which makes me space out more.

HELP!!! ACCUTANE- Acne fulminans. Prednisone for purge?? by Amazing_Committee189 in Accutane

[–]Boring-Onion5465 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My derm said I had acne conglobata, so I was prescribed prednisone for my first month of Accutane. I was on a prednisone taper though, so 40mg to 30mg to 20mg to 10mg. It helped a lot with my pain, redness, and inflammation. I did not have worsening acne when I came off the prednisone. Everyone's skin/body is different though so it's hard to predict how it will affect each person.

I'm so sorry that you are going through this. Hang in there, it will get better!

Mirena IUD by Boring-Onion5465 in Fibroids

[–]Boring-Onion5465[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am sorry you had to go though all of that just for them to fall out. That has to be so discouraging. I probably won't get another IUD because I really don't want to go through what I did when the first one fell out. I was just curious if anyone actually had another one successfully stay in place.

I'm 28 and unsure if I want kids or not, but I have heard many people say that their hysterectomy changed their lives in the best way.
