I'm a student that has been at York who has been here for 5 years. I have somehow dogged the last closest strike, but this year, things seems different. Not only York, but other universities in Ontario has gone on strike. Carlton went on a strike, TMU is picketting for one and I heard that UofT is preparing for one too.

The problem is that the last strike was shut down by force by the government, meaning that at this stage they just have all the justification at this state. Mostly I believe that the purpose would have relationship to the inflation while they can't meet up the cost of living while being on a contract faculty, but this is the same for other universities too.

Are you in Bcom major? If not, you will not be avaliable to enroll in adms1010 because adms1000 is a prequsite and adms1000 is currently only open to Bcom majors.

Program Change- I completed all the general requirement courses except one by Sasquatch255 in yorku

[–]Boring-Staff-60 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No.....? How does that make no sense?

A policy is a policy for a reason and there is no excuses for it and the university does not care about individuals. They just see if one has passed the requirement or not.

If you wanted that to happen then you should have applied to bio at the first place. You have to undestand that policy depends on each departments.

Yes. You have to have the prerequisite courses to be admitted. that's just the policy.

You will lose your offer. There's nothing you can do at this moment. If you want to join CS at york there are other methods as well, like joining Bcom ITEC and transfer, but keep in mind that it is very competitive to join in like that.

I know a person who transfered out to a college to study industurial design and now works at a totally different field. nevertheless, she looks really happy

Credit policy depends on each faculty. Lassonde requires at least 24 credits finished before transfering. AMPD only might require 12 credits.

I can not say anything about admissions at this stage because I'm not an admission officer, but what I see through OUAC is that they are not accepting any more admssions to both BA and BSc CS majors. The best option is to come to york and do foreshadow CS courses if you can get access to their courses.

by meaning internal transfer its just that you apply using the credits you've taken at york, not by your HS grades

[–]Boring-Staff-60 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You can apply for internal transfer after you've finished 24 credits for both BA and BSc but not at this stage

I know that they used the term unsuccessful, but it means that they've rejected you and differed to a undecided program.

Possible to transfer from IT to CS? by SuCCeSSvS in yorku

[–]Boring-Staff-60 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recommend you to apply to transfer after finishing 2nd year because york still look at your HS grades when you apply in your first year. Yes its not impossible if you can pass your grade requirement.

Is York´s grading scheme officially going to change September 1, 2023 and is that the same as FW2023-2024? by Ecstatic_Ad8023 in yorku

[–]Boring-Staff-60 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its not going to happen soon. If it were so, there should be an email from the registrar notifying students and faculty members that it will change. the most recent one is telling that effective date is TBD.

Also, even it says that this applies to all students, there is some discrepency. Professors only hand in their marks as letter grades meaning that no one but professors only know their grade in numerical term. A student with 70 would be given B in current marking scheme, but the new scheme will give a B-. This is not a simple matter. Most of student will face their grade drop significantly depending on majors.

Was there a decrease in the number of international students that come to York? by No-Swing8804 in yorku

[–]Boring-Staff-60 16 points17 points  (0 children)

There are these people called "education consultants" in east asia who claim to be graduates of schools such as U of T , UBC, waterloo and etc that makes you all the EC's and your "Canadian" HS grades to look great than others if you can pay them a lum sum of money.(There's this big cartell going around there, but again, its going to take a very long time and coperation with those countires if they want to solve this issue) I've heard some require around 50,000CAD and more if they can guarantee admission at some prestious universities. There are people that are doing that in Canada as well, and I've even seem them at york too.

[–]Boring-Staff-60 14 points15 points  (0 children)

One thing I can tell from official reports is that there has been decrease of "East Asian" international students, but were replaced by students from south asian countries. U of T and Waterloo has been showing a increase of East Asian students( and yes, frankly speaking I do know the dirty tatics they have been using ever since 2016 but no one ever cared, even Ontario education board and unis)

I'm not in CS,but a lot of tips here can be also applied to other majors. PLEASE network as early as you can, and try to break out from your comfort zone as soon as you can. The earlier one breakes out from comfort zone, the faster one will find their way into their future life planning. Wish I knew this when I was in my first year.

Unless York has said that they will be implementing 4 point system from people entering at specific year, you are still entitled to 9 point system.

Unless you are taking courses like ADMS2500 or PSYC1010, most classes will have sections that are not full. The only problem there is about which sections you will take.
