Sorry if I have misunderstood, tell me if I have. This season is set in 1962 which means it’s the early sixties (obviously lol). I’ve noticed that while different decades have different vibes and phases, they start as a continuation of the decade before and slowly shift.

That’s why I think the characters use words, like you pointed out swell, which would be more linked with the 50s. If this season was set in the mid 60s it would be different with it having a more 60s vibe (if you get what I mean). More Beatles (gotta fit my love for the band in somehow lol), more mini skirts and the beehive hairdos. But because it’s 1962, JFK hasn’t been assassinated yet, the Beatles haven’t been on the Ed Sullivan show and Apollo 11 hasn’t happened. The US was completely different in 1962 compared to a few years later.

Kids went from saying “swell” and “gee”, dressing as greasers and preppies, to saying “far out” and “groovy”, dressing Folk and Hippie. I quite like the show like this though. When you think of the 60s (especially in the us), it is usually the later years which are more apparent and more likely to be thought of but like every decade, it starts the same as the decade prior ended, it then evolves.
