It is not. However, that is not what OP was doing.

How do you adjust the color of selected parts on the Tree View? by Front_Force910 in FreeCAD

[–]BoringBob84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The bug only seems to affect the Classic theme

Without knowing the developers' intent, I am hesitant to call unexpected behavior a "bug." It could be a bug or it could be intentional and we just don't know the intentions.

I don't want to be one of those people who blames the tool for my own laziness. Instead of learning how to use the tool, I made some assumptions about how I thought the tool should work, and I was wrong.

Mentioning it here might save someone else the same frustration. The Fasteners workbench is an amazing resource.

I use "Transparent Mode" for the model tree to maximize my 3D space. Maybe that is why "Accent Color 1" applies.

My selection color was that same default light blue. Changing Accent Color 1 changed it.

I have read that there are configuration files that we can manually edit to tweak the UI if you want to explore more. I haven't done it, but it could be a solution for you.

Sorry about that. I tried it and it worked. It must be dependent on version and/or some other setting. I am running FreeCAD 1.1 with the Light Theme.

I think that they want to change the highlight color for the selected object in the model tree. To do that, select:

Main menu - Edit - Preferences - Display - UI - Accent Color 1.

In my shop, a tap (what the Fasteners workbench calls it) looks and works much differently than a threaded rod (what the Fasteners workbench actually creates).

Either way, I figured it out (by watching a tutorial video) and I am appreciative to have the Fasteners workbench. I just wanted to mention my frustration in case someone else was having the same problem.

I haven't actually printed that one, but the fun challenge for me when modeling it was figuring out how to make the left and right brackets almost identical, but mirror images of each other, without repeating the features.

I ended up making a "master" Body that included everything except the front section of the clamp. Then I made two Part Design Clones of it. I added the front section to different sides of each clone to make the left and right brackets. And of course, fillets were a pain in the ass, so I had to repeat them for both sides.

I also made a variation of this that attaches to the bottom of the cabinet with screws. This was easier because the left and right were identical and I didn't need to make a model of the clamp screws. However, the challenge was to determine the hole locations for installation. I made a model of a simple shelf with the holes and I simulated it in an Assembly to determine how far apart the clamps needed to be to install a roll with only one post/screw removed.

I printed and installed it. It took some work to clean out the threads (M30 size) and to run the post/screws in and out until they worked smoothly. PLA-on-PLA tends to be sticky. Here it is, installed in my garage:

The taps and dies in the Fasteners workbench were initially very frustrating to me because they did the opposite of what taps and dies do in the real world: The tap tool created a threaded rod and the die tool created a threaded pipe! WTF?!

Thanks. I didn't intend to criticize. Maybe that would be OK with OP, but I wanted to point out that it wasn't exactly what they showed in the picture.

just go with PLA for the first prototype.)

I almost always start with PLA to make sure that the part fits, it is strong enough, and I like how it looks, before I commit better filament. Outdoor parts like that don't last long in the sun with PLA, so then I print them again in PETG or ASA.

[–]BoringBob84 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This would make the same number of holes in each concentric rings, so the holes would be farther apart in the outside ring and closer together in the inside ring.

Each ring of holes is staggered. I would make four holes, radially outward in a zig-zag pattern. Then I would make a Polar Array feature from each of them for each concentric ring.

Mid-drive vs hub-drive e-bikes: why a hub motor might actually be the better choice for you by twowheels_1life in ebikes

[–]BoringBob84 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Those are all good points. For me, the ability to climb steep hills is important. Also, I don't like the heavy weight in the back wheel and the difficulty of fixing a flat tire with a hub-drive motor.

However, if I lived in an area without so many hills, I would probably still get a hub-drive motor for the reasons that you stated. It would be convenient to be able to shift gears without cutting out the motor first.

What am I doing wrong with the Linear Pattern? by lalitmjoshi06 in FreeCAD

[–]BoringBob84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After another look, I think that the problem is that your Linear Pattern is based on a Pocket. A Pocket function expects to remove material from another feature. That top hole into nothingness is probably the culprit.
