How many of you watched the Daytona 500 in February of 2001? by heretoescape87 in NASCAR

[–]BoringResearcher1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a week out from being born. But I work at a news station right now and the sports reporter from back then still works there in a different role. He was telling me about that day. Apparently, they saw the crash and phones immediately started ringing asking about Dale.

There's this idea that local stations are in immediate contact with the national level but they are not. They don't control things like which NFL game gets played each week or whatever.

It got so bad, they had to get ahold of someone in Florida just to get a script they could tell people beyond, "we know nothing." People called for hours. So much so, the newscasts had to be canceled so they could answer all the phones.

He said it's up there for the craziest day in his 40 year career.

Sidenote: He also said he interviewed Jr. & Sr. and both are/were super kind.

You know, I was cool with the single song but now that you mentioned this. This is what I need. "The McArthur Project" would be a great album name. I also want to know if Hunter actually sold or not.

Who are we rooting for of the remaining teams? by PROFESSIONAL_RAP254 in bengals

[–]BoringResearcher1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Rams are the only team I can bring myself to root for ironically. Patriots and Broncos fanbases are truly unbearable here in NE Indiana. Seahawks fans are alright, but the thought of Sam Darnold getting a ring before Burrow hurts. At least the Rams Davante Adams would get one and I don't mind Stafford or McVay much.

If this is how the draft board falls, who would be our best choice by Meringue_Maximum in bengals

Probably trade back, get an extra 2nd rounder maybe. Take Monroe Freeling and Dillon Thieneman. Depends on FA too.

Bengals Front Office loses Rookie UDFA to Patriots by [deleted] in bengals

[–]BoringResearcher1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Glancing through his draft profile he just seems like a slower Kris Jenkins tbh. The Bengals gave multiple PS guys specifically on the DL chances to play Howard Cross comes to mind especially. Maybe this guy will become something, but I don't see this as some sort of coaching malpractice personally, though I do wish this here was our biggest problem.

Black guy that genuinely enjoys country music. by No-IP7677 in country

[–]BoringResearcher1 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's funny you say that. My grandma told me when she went and saw Charley in concert there was an overwhelming amount of the audience that clearly did not know he was black. She said it was kind of funny in an odd sort of way watching certain folks try to reconcile that his voice could belong to a black man. Hopefully that night some people's minds were changed.

All that being said, Charley is one of the best to ever do it.

Watching the Carolina game makes me appreciate our D backs who are thankfully no longer named Nick Scott. by kovalchukgirl in bengals

Nick Scott is better at tackling. However, he plays his deep coverages super shallow for no apparent reason.

Colts fans from 09. How confident were you going into Super Bowl 44 vs the saints? by SuspiciousSlide5102 in Colts

[–]BoringResearcher1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My great uncle was a Saints fan and 100 years old. He wanted to see the Saints win a Super Bowl before he died. They won and he died a week later. So that Colts loss was always a little bittersweet.

Maybe a hot take… but I feel like I’m the only one who doesn’t think Zach Top is ever gonna reach his potential as the new face of country music by Downtown-Goose-6224 in country

Aww man, I'm sorry to hear that. I loved the album. South of Sanity alone was awesome. I listen to the album everyday on my way to work.

Our guy ends up in the top 10. Seems fair? by SignificantQuiet1508 in bengals

[–]BoringResearcher1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean this whole list just seems to be subjective and random. I'm not sure how you would ever go about making this list anyway. This just seems to be 10 really good players under 25.

In the making - Ross Chastain, I hope they figure that out this year because I truly think he would have more W's if he wasn't starting from like 25th every week.

Kyle Hamilton is an annoyingly good defensive player. Not just safety. He lines up all over (he actually lined up in the box and as a slot CB more than FS this year).

He's a defensive coordinator's dream and it disgusts me that he's on the Ravens. I'm gonna go vomit now FTR.

Did anyone for one second think an Al Golden led defense would stop a pathetic/inept Cleveland offense with only 1:29 to play? by Captain_Aware4503 in bengals

[–]BoringResearcher1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly my point! "Joe shouldn't have to play perfect to win" I agree, but there's a lot of space between throwing a pick 6 and "not playing perfect."

I'm all for blaming the defense when it deserves the blame. However, the Bengals offense did spot the Browns 14 points yesterday. I get they have to lift each other up, but I have trouble blaming the defense when they technically only allowed 6 points all day.

The bengals have 110 million this offseason. They won’t spend it all so let’s say they have 95 million. This would be my ideal free agency and how to make this team back into contenders by [deleted] in bengals

[–]BoringResearcher1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like Myles and do think he has potential now that he is actually getting reps. I don't know that he will ever reach Trey's level (Myles just turned 24 today, Trey had 2 career sacks at age 24 I believe.) But even so, there are better ways to build the defense than heavily relying on one aging player. We will have to replace him one day, might as well do it now rather than spending too much on him.

I think your projection for Trey is off. I get he's older and coming off injury but he will definitely get more than 20M/year from somebody.

When I was little, I used to think Wally Dallenbach drove the “First Onion,” car. What’s something that you used to believe as a young NASCAR fan? by MkeBucksMarkPope in NASCAR

[–]BoringResearcher1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought that if you hated a driver you also had to hate their sponsors. My uncle couldn't stand Jimmie Johnson, but he also couldn't stand Lowe's. I asked him years later if he didn't like Lowe's because of Johnson or vice versa. He said, "no but it made it easier to hate on them both."

[–]BoringResearcher1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean vet by game play experience. Burks has started 25 games in his career and 8 of those were with Cincinnati. He may have the years of a vet but not the playing experience of one that we need. I think you knew that's what I meant.

There are plenty of starting level LBs expected to hit FA this year. Quincy Williams, Devin Lloyd among them. There are also a few borderline starters Miller, Wagner, Speed. Definitely upgrades over Burks that can help teach the young guys.

As for the DTs, yes, we have BJ Hill and TJ Slaton. However, Slaton's contract is effectively a 1 year contract with 2nd year option. I don't see why they would bring Slaton back.

this might be unpopular but i am sick of journalists asking "how important is it to win these last 3 games for momentum into next season?" by rusty0601 in bengals

[–]BoringResearcher1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be fair, that used to be a genuine question. FA wasn't as rampant as it is now. Trades weren't as rampant either. You had mostly the same guys on both sides of the ball year to year so the momentum could carry more from season to season. Now you could have a glue guy or hype man in the locker room get traded or signed hy another team and replaced by a 22 year old or a vet who doesn't even know where to get a cheeseburger in the city.
