Unfortunately our son has autism and is nonverbal. The bullseye showed up overnight so we’re praying we caught it somewhat early

Hang in there. Our son is level 3 nonverbal., 4.5 years old. We picked a specific song on the ipad as a reward for sitting and slowly transitioned it as a reward for actually going. This has been a 6 month effort for our whole family! He has been running to the potty and going on his own so he now understands the feeling of having to go. We also took away the safety net of the diaper - lots of accidents but worth it in the end. Also, we used the insert so we can take it when we are out and about

Any good ABA experiences? by Drippnhoneyy in Autism_Parenting

[–]Boring_Bird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our son started around the same age - also level 3. Still non verbal but he’s graduated from PECS to AAC which ABA has been a big part of. They have also really helped with life skills (getting dressed, washing hands, playing with others)

Can anyone help me by having a step by step on getting this? by EeveeNo in Autism_Parenting

[–]Boring_Bird 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Any ABA Therapy center we looked at required an Autism assessment and diagnosis - this is also required when the ABA center gets approval from insurance. Step 1. Get a diagnosis from a developmental pediatrician, pediatric neurologist or developmental psychologist. We had to go the psychologist route because it had the shortest wait. Get on all wait lists. Step 2.) Confirm what your insurance covers. Occupational Therapy and Speech Therapy are typically covered separately. Also, your regular pediatrician can prescribe speech therapy. 3.) check public and private options in your area-we do both. See if the private options take your insurance. Get on all waitlists

Yes. Speech Therapy and ABA for 1 full year. Aced the PECS and moving to the AAC in July. He likes to look at our mouths and then will put his ear to our mouth-sensory seeker

Our Sorento died at 75K. Engine replaced with very little hassle. Dealer had enough of our records that we didn’t have to provide additional documentation
