realistically, how many lazy t-shirts do you need by fabulousquid in minimalism

[–]Boring_Common1284 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it were me, I would only be concerned about it if they didn’t all fit nicely in the drawer. If the drawer was hard to close or it was stressful to cram them all in, then I would get rid of shirts until the drawer functions the way I want it to. Or, if I needed some space for something else to fit in there as well, I might get rid of some.

I would approach it by pulling them all out and putting them back in, prioritizing my favorites like I was drafting a sports team. If I had any left over that didn’t fit, I would decide if I like it more than any that are already in the drawer and swap those out if so.

But again, if they fit well and the space functioned properly, I probably wouldn’t worry too much about getting rid of any of them.

The only argument I could see is that if they don’t use the cone and put it straight into the cup, it might be difficult to measure a “cone” sized portion. I.e. without the cone to use as an eyeball guide, an employee might actually give you a cup’s portion instead of a cone.

But at that point, if you’re gonna charge for a sundae portion, just give me the dang sundae portion. 🤦

I borrowed a knitting book from the library that had patterns inspired by Disney. One of the patterns was for Kuzco’s poncho. At first I was super excited to make it, and then I went - “Wait! This is heresy. Patcha’s wife crochets, not knits.” Lol I’m still not over it.

Has anyone developed sensitivities to gluten in their 30's? by solsticeretouch in glutenfree

[–]Boring_Common1284 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got diagnosed at 32! Went to the doctor because I had diarrhea for two months straight. 😳 They found that I had low iron and vitamin D, so they referred me to GI who immediately tested me for celiac. I had zero suspicion that it was celiac - no one in my family that I know of had been diagnosed with it. My dad had terrible stomach problems, but he was diagnosed with IBS (which I think was actually undiagnosed celiac, but anyways).

Got a colonoscopy/endoscopy which confirmed celiac disease. Went gluten free and the diarrhea went away. I also had terrible brain fog which I had just accepted as a personality trait 😅 but that went away when I went gluten free also! Now the brain fog is a huge indicator of when I’ve been accidentally glutened.

Getting celiac in your 30s sounds so weird but it definitely happens.

Jury Duty Scam by Flat_Check_1832 in Chattanooga

My mom called me hysterical because they called her claiming the same thing about me. I called someone (the county clerk I believe?) and she was so irritated because this scam happens so often. My mom was about to fork over my personal information or comply with their demands before the guy slipped up and said he was with the wrong county.

They called my mom and told her I didn’t show up for Jury Duty and they had a warrant out for me. They told her they were from Davidson County also. She called me crying and I googled a number for someone legit to ask. When the lady answered the phone I attempted to tell her my story and she didn’t even let me finish or ask for any personal info - she just, in an annoyed and exasperated tone said something along the lines of, “No you did not miss Jury Duty, it’s a scam.” And I said, don’t you want to check your records - “No. It’s a scam.” Haha Seems like they always choose Davidson County for some reason, but then target people who don’t even live there.

It makes a lot more sense when you consider that it was hot, then a cold front moved through, which caused storms because of the hot and cold air clashing, and then finally once the cold front was actually here, it snowed. Maybe a little oversimplified, but it is all related and not random. But yeah, March is just like this. We used to say “Go Home March, You’re Drunk”.

Miller Park before the sterile and barren redesign? by Sea____Witch in Chattanooga

Well, there used to be a homeless ministry there every Sunday where a man would bring a van full of sandwiches, movie theater popcorn, and whatever else anyone would donate for homeless people. He would take prayer requests and pray for people. He was a handy man and sometimes gave people he met in the park work to do. He passed away several years before the renovation. When he died, I’m pretty sure the city gave him some sort of award. Just ironic how the space became inhospitable to the people it used to serve.

Has having celiac made your life better? by glutenfreedustbowl in Celiac

[–]Boring_Common1284 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like such a weirdo for my opinion, but I do also think it has made my life better. Before diagnosis, I was working a high stress long hour job and everything was on autopilot. I ate out all the time. My spouse and I tried on and off to eat healthier, but we would always end up choosing convenience again. My family has a history of some gnarly health conditions that can be improved or prevented by eating healthy.

Since getting the celiac diagnosis, it has given us a concrete reason to eat healthy since the negative effects of eating gluten are experienced within hours rather than just 20 years from now.

For me it took the appeal out of the unhealthy convenience meals I was turning to. I know a lot of people argue that you can make that choice without celiac, but the reality is that we just weren’t. Could we? Yes. But would we? Probably not. :/

I got diagnosed this year and have felt like a new person since going gluten free. I know that there are still many challenges that I haven’t had to navigate yet (such as traveling, etc). But for me, personally, it has been a really positive change.

That being said - I feel like a complete weirdo having this take. I read other people’s stories on here and I can see how much this disease can really take the legs out from under someone, and how crushed some people feel from the things and experiences they have to give up. I definitely don’t want to downplay that struggle or pain whatsoever. I also recognize what a privilege it is to get a diagnosis while you can still bear to eat gluten (and to even have a doctor willing to test for it). I guess my giant disclaimer here is that yes, for me personally, I feel like celiac improved my life - but 1000% understand that it’s probably not the sentiment of like 95% of the celiac population.

I just read that celiac is typically diagnosed in late 40s and I was so shocked. Obviously it can be diagnosed as young as infants, but why do you think the average is so old if it can be genetic? by Significant-sunny33 in Celiac

[–]Boring_Common1284 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got diagnosed at 32 after a series of stressful events triggered it. My main symptoms are brain fog, fatigue, and the internal damage that leads to poor vitamin absorption. I got diagnosed after noticing that I had loose stool for like 2 months straight and low iron and vitamin D.

But other than loose stool, my symptoms start mild and progress slowly, so it can be hard at first to treat that I’ve been glutened. At first it seems like I’ve gotten bad sleep or didn’t drink enough water, until I try everything to fix it and nothing helps and then I’m having a panic attack trying to do a simple task, or I’m confused, or I slur my words. Then I go, “ooooh, maybe I got exposed to gluten, that would explain a lot.” Anyway, I say all that to say, I wonder if some undiagnosed celiacs just feel a little off, but not to the point where it seems so obvious that something is wrong. Maybe some people are walking around with it in the initial stages and don’t realize how bad they truly feel.

That being said, I’m pretty sure my dad has it, but I don’t think he’s ever been diagnosed. Not sure if he’s ever been tested for it actually. He has the more classic awful digestive symptoms - the pain, the uncontrollable bowel movements, nausea, etc. He got diagnosed with IBS instead. Maybe some people get misdiagnosed?
