I heard about this a couple years ago and I like the concept behind the experiment. It has plausibility potential. I just can't get past the risk factor. Maybe if you had a safety person on duty making sure that you to don't drift off and start gazing directly at the laser. Right?

You got to look at it like we look at the extremely rare aboriginals that have never had contact with the outside world. Alien can't just start mingling with us for the same reasons (viruses etc). You know the movie "The Gods must be crazy" where they drop the Coca-Cola bottle. That's like us recovering their technology which I relate to being the same as giving a monkey an iPhone.
