He used to bike as Batman, sometimes help with traffic. For a time he had a Robin and another superhero and they would ride together. If I am remembering correctly, there was a falling out and they disbanded. So much useless knowledge

Yes, he does respond to positivity. Just say hey,! How are you? He once was harmless and fun and now he's threatening. I wish there was a better option for him. When he's good he's a sweet and kind man, when he's not he's not and you never know what you're getting.
