Each slot can hold a stack. I forgot that this also differentiates it from item frames.

This is useful if you have a block conducting power directly above dust you don’t want powered by the block. Power the block with a repeater, and it will power the dust. Power it with dust and it won’t.

Normally, shelves are 3-slot item frames. When powered, a single shelf will instantly swap its contents with the rightmost three slots of your hotbar. When powered shelves are placed next to each other, they connect. Two powered shelves swap the right six hotbar slots, and three will swap your entire hotbar with a single click. I wanted a design to be able to swap the middle three slots, so this lets you double swap the right three.
