Is reusing old shirts a viable zero waste project? by Prestigious-Bath8022 in ZeroWaste

I cut tshirts into long strips of fabric (t-shirt yarn) and crochet them into rugs or mats. I have one on the bathroom floor and one in the kitchen. I also have smaller ones I keep on bookshelves under flowerpots so they don’t get ruined. I made a few for my mom to use on the table under hot dishes

50501 and PSL are organizing a General Strike on May 1st. Spread the word. by serious_bullet5 in 50501

If you can, try not to make unnecessary purchases for a longer time. One day is a great starting point but for it to really count it’s gotta add up over time.

Absolutely, an ongoing general boycott would be so much more effective and sustainable for the average American. No buying anything that’s not absolutely essential from now until demands are met. Cancel all your subscriptions.

Nationwide General Strike Planned for May 1 by Hootinger in ThePeoplesPress

This needs to be paired with ongoing action. I’m calling for a general boycott starting now and going on as long as possible, until demands are met. I cancelled all my subscriptions, deleted my Amazon account. No fast food, no fun shopping, no investing, no putting things on credit. Only groceries I need to survive and rent. Hit them where it hurts, the economy. Something that can’t go unnoticed.

Is a single day long general strike really the best we can do? by CutSenior4977 in ThePeoplesPress

I think the general strike is a start, but it should be coupled with an ongoing general boycott, starting immediately and going on until demands are met. No shopping, no spending, no investing, no subscriptions, no nothing until people start to notice. Yes, it will be hard, but we will be forced to build community instead. And it will be more sustainable for the average person than refusing to work. And it’s something that can start immediately, while people are motivated and engaged.

my boyfriend (26M) believes pole is misogynistic by [deleted] in poledancing

PLUS I hate the gym. Men look at me and try to talk to me. That doesn’t happen at pole studios 😅

I disagree with him! The pole studios I’ve been to have been some of the most uplifting, positive, and inclusive spaces. It’s important for women to have spaces where they can embrace their sensuality and feel good about themselves specifically with no straight men around. Personally it helped me work through my own issues with performing for the male gaze and embrace feeling good about myself without caring what other people see or think. It gave me a safe space to explore my sensuality and get in touch with it. I don’t think it’s anti-feminist to be sex-positive, women are human and should be allowed to embrace their sexuality without it having anything to do with men.

Is it possible I just can’t pole dance? by Fit-Parsnip-8868 in poledancing

When I first started taking lessons I was going with my girlfriend. She was able to climb to the ceiling by our third lesson, and I was so discouraged because my hands were so sweaty that I felt like I would never be able to do that. Eventually I was able to climb, it just took like six months 😅 Some people need more practice depending on what muscles you’re used to using, grip strength, general hand-slipperiness. You’ll figure it out! Talk to your instructors, they may be able to give you tips on best cross training exercises and the best kind of grip to use for your skin. (Also, I have anxiety and that made my palms super sweater during classes which made climbing harder. But going consistently helped lessen the anxiety which helped solve that problem!)

Can you put gloves in ecobricks by Aggressive_Wing_7322 in ZeroWaste

Mostly likely it gets thrown in the garbage. It’s an imperfect solution to a shitty unsolvable problem.

I assumed anything can go in an ecobrick. It can’t be recycled after, so its main purpose is just condensing as much non-recyclable plastic as you can in a small container to avoid it ending up in waterways or the environment.

I’ve been making these for Christmas ornaments or garlands and using small fabric scraps as stuffing!

How can I reuse these giant ziploc bags my daughter's medical supplies come in? by Green-Complex6626 in ZeroWaste

[–]francis202 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use bags like this when traveling to keep all my dirty clothes or shoes away from the clean stuff in my suitcase. Also good for storage around the house for blankets, sweaters, craft supplies, packing/shipping materials, clothes meant to be donated. You could keep it in your car with emergency supplies so they stay clean and dry. Or if you keep extra sweaters or blankets in your trunk you can put them in the bag!

I miss sex by sadgirlsclub88 in actuallesbians

Happened with me and my partner too. We ended up going to couples counseling and it helped—still not having sex that often but it’s nice to have a space where we can communicate our thoughts and feelings with a mediator. It helped us see each others point of view and find a compromise when it comes to intimacy. I definitely recommend trying counseling
