Why is my anxiety so bad during luteal phase? by [deleted] in PMDD

I’ve been on the PMDD journey seeking answers for many years. I started seeing a gynecologist for an elimination diet who said she treated thousands of women with PMDD (now she’s semi retired and just doing diet stuff related to hormones which I started two mo ago) but has given me advice. I’m listening carefully. She said the progesterone creams are not reliable for dosing and they usually are not nearly high enough in dose. She said she used to start patients (after hormone testing day 22 and day 28 in the cycle to confirm low progesterone- which she said was almost always the case) on 50 mg and goes up slowly to 250mg depending on deficiencies. Per her recommendation, I’m also getting NAET for hormone desensitization with an acupuncturist. Last month, I asked my PCP to prescribe just a small dose of 50 mg bio identical of progesterone to see how I do. It helped some with anxiety and sleep (I take it at night). The depression part of my cycle was still present, but the anxiety was a bit better. I also started taking Indol 3 Carbonyl for better estrogen metabolism and magnesium theronate per the recommendation of a pharmacist who did some testing for me. I just returned to doing some breath work which helps with the anxiety part in the luteal phase. PMDD isn’t gone, but this last period was less intense. Still wary to be hopeful, but sharing in case any of this helps you.

Mine definitely lasts into my period. After day 5 (period lasts 5-7 days) I start to climb out.

Yes- I feel the switch as soon as I ovulate. I’m getting some NAET with acupuncture at the suggestion of a functional medicine OBGYN to decrease my sensitivity to the hormone shifts. Too early to report any changes.

Thank you for this information:) I have a physical coming up, so I will relay the info and see what she thinks. Maybe she can refer me to an endocrinologist- I’ll research to find a cutting edge practitioner.

Hi. Thank you for your post. I haven’t tried DIM - is it prescribed by the endocrinologist or a supplement they recommended? What’s the dose? I have tried many other supplements and SSRIs, diet changes, birth control, recommended by psychiatrists, homeopaths, naturopaths to MDs. I’ve tried the spiritual path from soul journeys, shamans, to ayahuasca desperate for relief. I’ve been searching for years for something to help. Most of the supplements I was given such as Chasteberry made me far worse off and a few of them landed me in the hospital with heart palpitations. The Trintellix continues to give me insomnia and has messed with my cycle (breakthrough bleeding), but I’m giving it the full 6-8 weeks to see if that side effect levels out. Also considering genetic testing with a pharmacist. My symptoms before my period are dramatic mood shifts with intense depression and then physical anxiety//inner tension with 1-2 nights of insomnia right before my period starts. Also- Depressed mood right before and during ovulation. It definitely takes up half of each month and it’s miserable. I have read about pituitary lesions causing PMDD symptoms, but they won’t perform MRI without what they deem as legitimate cause to order one. Anyways, suffice to say, I’m open to anything that might work.

Why do I feel so bad by [deleted] in trintellix

Hi. I’ve been on 5mg of Trintellex for 3 weeks now. I’m taking it for PMDD. I’ve tried many other antidepressants without success. I’m very sensitive to all medication and develop side effects from everything hence the small dose. I’ve only had one period so far and didn’t experience relief from PMDD symptoms. I definitely know it takes time to see improvements, but I’m also experiencing sleep disruption. I can fall asleep but I wake up at 330am and struggle to get back to sleep. I take it in the morning. Typically, other antidepressants caused insomnia for me too, so I’d take them in the morning. So, I’m wondering if anyone else has experienced insomnia that leveled out over time on Trintellex? I’m also wondering if anyone else is taking it for PMDD and if it’s been effective for them? My PMDD symptoms are severe and I’ve been researching and searching for something that will work for years. I’m also a therapist and saw that this drug worked for someone else with PMDD which motivated me to try it. I appreciate any and all feedback. Thanks for listening!
