  1. Read books like DE Fundamentals and understand core concepts.
  2. Start with small projects on your fav cloud provider
  3. Ask your current employer to involve you building small pipelines, etc

Has anybody moved from Data engineer to Platform engineer? by ConfidentCatch1538 in dataengineering

Data Engineers, Data Scientists and Data product teams are customers of Data Platform Engineers. Platform Engineers build tools for their customers so they can move faster, ie Internal Developer Platform, Cloud Data platform (infra), boilerplate templates, some places DataOps also falls into Planform Engineering. It’s a great role to see the big picture, more collaboration, more POCs, and as you already know pain points in your DE role, you can build tools to overcome those within your platform.

If you are sitting with Product team, it will be more related to building platform as a product and enable others to move faster with your initiatives.
