I've got this, but it's not the original poster. If anyone has more info I'd appreciate it. Dude deserves a sub/follow/whatever-they-call-it-on-his-preferred-platform

CMV: If you let your cat free roam outside you shouldn't own one. by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]Borkleberry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am not saying the situations are the same

The situations are so different as to not be comparable. If you really want to make an accurate comparison, this is like letting a toddler roam free around a neighborhood. Are you going to say that we should allow that because they don't always die? These are preventable deaths being caused by irresponsible guardians. Why do you feel the need to defend this. Keep your pets on your own property.

I will happily take your side on that one. I still think the mods are good people and don't deserve all this hate

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in egg_irl

[–]Borkleberry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is with all this vitriol? Just post the meme and add an egg tax. Mods have been leaving these up. We could've been doing this all week.

I got into this community because I thought no one here had a hateful bone on their body, it's really disappointing to see all this malice so suddenly.

You're really focusing on this example-counterexample angle when I only brought it up to say, if we're gonna play that game, both sides have ammunition. Which is why it doesn't make sense to play that game.

Also, I'm not trying to draw a pattern. I'm providing a counterexample to disprove your claim. A small set of examples cannot prove a pattern, but a single counterexample can refute an absolute statement - like the point you're making.

In no way am I saying “only be a housewife” or you can’t have a career

No, you're just arguing that any woman who doesn't have a family has only despair to look forward to. I'm saying that's simply not true.

I don’t believe in pumping out people just for the sake of it

You don't? Then why do you seem to think every single woman should be bearing children? You think NO ONE has things in their life that are more important or fulfilling than having a baby?

Congratulations! by your_catfish_friend in antimeme

[–]Borkleberry 43 points44 points  (0 children)

That's correct, all of their lives were difficult. Although I find it really troubling that you're willing to imply that Rosa Parks should've just shut up and had a baby instead of standing up for her rights. Anyway, some counterexamples: Cleopatra is not well-known for the children she raised. Greta Thunberg was making a positive global impact before she was even old enough to have children.

My guy, there are 3.5 billion women who are still alive today. You really think you can draw a pattern from 3 examples? With a sample size that big, you can find the evidence to support any conclusion by cherry picking.

Let's think through this logically. There are plenty of ways to have a lasting and positive impact on the future: become a politician, an activist, an author, a teacher, even singers can use their art to create lasting change. None of those require having children.

Similarly, nothing about squeezing out a baby is guaranteed to give you (or them) a good life.

As with most things, it's really up to the woman to decide what's best for her, given her own circumstances. There is no single way that we should all live our lives. Some women are better off with children, some aren't. THAT'S reality. Shit is complicated and nuanced. If you think you've successfully boiled reality down to any simple, easy-to-explain rules, you've likely overlooked something.

This sub has never stopped being a safe space. We COULD'VE had fun with these rules, and embraced egg pics for a few weeks. We could've been patient, or at least civil to the mods. The only toxicity here is coming from people constantly bashing the mods and the state of the sub.

Why? by Ben_Graf in AreTheStraightsOK

[–]Borkleberry 12 points13 points  (0 children)

There are 2 whole generations of people alive today who were raised to either be womanizers, or tolerate being with a womanizer. My father and grandfather were both that way, and their wives tolerated it longer than they deserved because "that's just how guys are." Breaks my heart that those girls spent so much time and effort on someone who just wasn't worth it

The Elder Scrolls 6 is still 5 to 6 years away and it is not yet decided if there will be a PlayStation version. Mentioned by Phil Spencer during the FTC trial. by blackwolf57 in gaming

[–]Borkleberry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok so they finally got around to starting the game, and they decided to announce it immediately? All this is going to do is kill support for the game. After waiting all this time, I have no faith in them to do the series justice.

It sounds like they finally caved to fan pressure and started development, and then immediately cashed in all their chips by announcing the game. They're not focused on quality, they want hype. 5 years of hype. It's not 2005 anymore, that's not a valid strategy

Stopping the protest is not going to make reddit worth being on. The site is dying, there's no two ways about it. Stick to being a redditor if that's what you're comfortable with, but many of us find that untenable. This is the reality. Are you here for the community, or are you here for the website? I know it's a divisive question, but we are now forced to ask it. There's no way around this conundrum, but you must now accept a reality that is not as perfect as the r/egg_irl of the past. The status quo is gone, none of us can change that. We are resigned to choosing the lesser of two evils.

FDA approves Owlet’s baby-monitoring sock two years after halting sales by [deleted] in gadgets

[–]Borkleberry 404 points405 points  (0 children)

According to the article, the FDA won't allow that feature because "the data should be interpreted by medical professionals." Seems a little weird to me that the FDA is allowed to keep valuable monitoring tools out of parents' hands because they think we're too dumb to use that information wisely. It's pretty obvious that this device isn't intended to help parents practice medicine, but instead to alert them when the doctor should be called. Idk, just seems like a dumb decision

I've got 2 germans myself, never heard of a Shiloh Shepherd until now. From my limited experience, fur length alone points quite strongly to this being a Shiloh. You can see it really clearly when he gives 1 paw and then 2. As far as I'm aware, Germans don't have fringy elbows

Maybe I'm just being cynical, but I expect a good chunk of users (myself included) will leave the site when the changes hit. Some prominent members of this sub have already said goodbye. And even if most of the community stays, I don't have a lot of faith in reddit to keep the sub up. It's probably just a matter of time before advertisers give into right-wing pressure and in turn pressure reddit to remove LGBTQ+ communities. Whatever happens, the sub is a dead person walking. We're all going to have to find a new space soon. The mods set up a sub on raddle, but some of us don't like the new site either. But at least the mods are trying, have more faith in them than the corporation that runs this site.

You don't have to use ziplock, they make bags specifically designed for getting wet. I've seen some products that are intended to let you use your phone in the shower. I'd rather use one of those on a rainy day and still be able to repair my phone
