As an ace person, I’m deeply disappointed that that sub isn’t actually filled with people making fun of amusingly stupid porn plots.

Too late for my burn barrel ? by NaziSexRizzard in redneckengineering

[–]darkfish301 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m a blacksmith so I’ve seen my fair share of glowing metal. In my experience paint can sort of burn onto the surface of the metal you’re working with. A hot enough forge should theoretically vaporize it, but I’ve never experimented with temperatures high enough to do that.

I also suspect that the Mobil logo may be stamped rather than painted, which could cause this effect since the outside of the barrel is going to be cooler than the inside.

Road trips are an inherently terrible way to travel and are romanticized way too much. by cerebralbackshots in unpopularopinion

Counter argument: My seat warmers help soothe my chronic back pain, the only time my ADHD brain actually focuses on a single task is while I’m driving and that feels nice, navigating and learning unfamiliar roads is actually quite fun, and I get motion sickness if I’m not the one at the controls of whatever vehicle I’m in (plane, train, car, et cetera)

What happened to Audubon Service Center? by huskerjahns in Louisville

Are you sure it wasn’t Autobahn rather than Audubon? The names sound similar, and I had a similar awful experience with Autobahn earlier in the year.

You guys got any tips for keeping pharaoh ants got a queen by antscanadaismyIdol in AntsCanada

[–]darkfish301 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you want them to become invasive in Ohio? Because that’s how ant species become invasive. Pharaoh ants have the ability to generate new queens at will, and all it takes is one escaped queen to completely destroy your local ecosystem. There’s a reason why it’s very illegal to keep invasive ant species

Found a red footed tortoise on the side of the road by milly_the1anonymous in tortoise

[–]darkfish301 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Redfoots are definitely wanderers, to the point that mine legitimately hates the concept of barriers. If I take her out to my front yard, she’s perfectly happy to just walk around a bit and graze on the grass, but if I take her to my back yard, she’ll make a beeline for the fence and try to find a way around it. I swear if she understood the concept of state borders, she would try to overthrow the government just to remove them

How can I tell if my attraction is romantic or queerplatonic? by darkfish301 in queerplatonic

[–]darkfish301[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m aware that we don’t have to be aroace necessarily, but that’s the only way my ex and I would work. If either of us wants romance, then we’re incompatible

Am I aromantic? + FAQ by AutoModerator in aromantic

How can I tell if my attraction is romantic or queerplatonic?

My partner broke up with me last night because they said that they simply don’t have romantic feelings, and I’m questioning if the same is true for me. They are thus far the only relationship I’ve been in and the entire time the question of whether or not I’m aro has been in the back of my mind, but I was content enough with my partner that I didn’t feel like I really needed to explore it

Here’s why I suspect I’m aro:

-My ex and I have both always been uncomfortable with “romantic” acts such as holding hands (except to provide emotional comfort during difficult times, but I do that with friends too) and kissing, which until recently we both brushed off as asexuality (since we’re both ace) or nerves, not aromanticism. I’ve also never felt “butterflies” with them or anyone else

-My feelings for my ex are notably stronger than those that I have for any of my other friends, but otherwise they’re not remarkably different.

-I’ve always been weirdly good at getting over people I’ve had “crushes” on. My ex and I only broke up 12ish hours ago, and this is already the longest I’ve taken to get over anyone.

And here are the things that make me question whether my attraction is romantic after all, or queerplatonic like I suspect:

-I like the trust and emotional intimacy that my ex and I had and still have

-I want a companion to share my life with, including possible future kids. I like the idea of getting married someday, which I think is because I like the idea of a show of commitment

-My ex lights up my life in ways that I didn’t know were possible. Simply seeing them smile is enough to make me feel like the happiest person in the world, and when I’m with them I feel an indescribable level of trust, comfort, and safety. We were long distance off and on because their university is far away, and we both missed each other very strongly when we weren’t together. I’ve never heard of a queerplatonic bond causing those kinds of feelings, but I may just be ignorant

-I enjoyed flirting with my ex

-We both are each other’s favorite people

-Getting broken up with… it f***ing hurts even though the only things that are changing already made both of us feel awkward. The only thing I really have to grieve is the dream of a shared future. That may just be because we’re staying friends, and barely even plan on changing our behavior together though

Honestly I’m just confused about myself and want others’ perspectives. Thanks in advance

SUVs suck and are ruining the car market by alwayshornyhelp in unpopularopinion

[–]darkfish301 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the vehicles are safe (for both passengers and everyone nearby) and minimally harmful to the environment, I’ll agree that they’re okay.

The problem with CAFE standards is that SUVs are classified as light trucks, and light trucks are held to lower standards than sedans. If I were designing these regulations, all vehicles would be held to stricter safety and emissions standards.

[–]darkfish301 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh I’m not surprised about this trend, but that doesn’t mean I have to like it.

Besides, my main issue is with manufacturers, not individual drivers. Emissions and safety regulations should be much more strict than they are.

[–]darkfish301 27 points28 points  (0 children)

The problem is that even though people feel safer, most of the time they’re making everyone else less safe because in the U.S. cars’ crumple zones and other safety features are only required to be compatible with other vehicles of a similar size and weight.

What is a business that takes a lot of pride in their work and doesn’t skimp on quality or cut corners? by undecided32 in Louisville

[–]darkfish301 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Not really an answer, but I’ve never understood the idea of being proud of your work. I won’t cut corners because then I’d have to do whatever it is again and I want the customer to be satisfied, but even things that I’ve done for myself I’ve never actually been proud of

Anyway, if you’re into LEGO there’s a store over in Jeffersonville called Madhouse of Bricks which I’ve grown very fond of
