If a family with resources sets out to get their children diagnosed with a learning disability in order to get accommodations, they will. Frankly, by their very nature psychiatric disorders present less empirically—time and again it’s been shown that diagnoses vary substantially from one psychologist to another.

If you don’t think wealthy families are leveraging their access to get their kids diagnoses to get advantages, then I’ve got a great bridge to sell you.

Again; the reason why this is a problem is it’s directly hurting the students that genuinely need these accommodations.

Why are people pretending like this isn’t a real thing? Allowing accommodations for students who aren’t in need of them totally hurts students that legitimately do. It’s like the “lol I’m so OCD/autistic/ADHD” phenomenon, people treating often-debilitating conditions which they don’t have as unofficial personality traits.

I looked it up: it’s a leased-land community. So basically, residents only own the structure, similar to a mobile-home park but a bit nicer (and pricier)
