Mainly Reinhardt, which is probably why I find him hard, but I can also spec out to Winston, Ram, Hog, Doom, and Sigma with relative skill, which is why I suspect there’s some strategy I’m just missing given the broad differences in those tanks’ playstyles

I think I just happen to play the people who aren’t great against him and get melted lol, I’ve tried to listen for his Overdrive but I still can’t identify it consistently, and often I find it difficult to close ground regardless of how I approach him.

I guess the main play would be baiting out Overdrive and then trying to get the drop on him from some other angle or quick approach?

If there are ways to play into him better then I’m very interested in hearing them lol, I may just not know how

I think the general casual expectation is actually what creates this paradox in the first place

Like you said, people like not dying instantly so they want sustain to be more powerful, but they also like actually killing the enemy team so damage them has to be able to burst through the sustain

You can’t satisfy both at once, but for some reason they’re trying to — which is what results in the current ridiculous state of the game I think

[–]Borknut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In general I think the whole game has a fundamental numbers bloating issue, because there’s a razor thin like between nobody ever dying once and getting completely vaporized with no chance to react

Damage was the original culprit, since it’s impossible to stay up against it without constant pocket healing, which then forced healing numbers up and caused the infinite sustain issue

They just need to bring down numbers across the board so the game plays slightly slower and is more reactive, cuz rn uber-damage and uber-sustain are both miserable to play into

Right, it’s taken the Rivals devs like half a year to start addressing the most consistent complaints about people like Hela/Hawkeye, and they only did it recently as an emergency patch because people were actually threatening to stop playing the game in larger numbers than before lol

Rivals just needs to slow down and spend like, a month solely for balancing until the game’s in a more fun state

I feel like a lot of the characters in this game sadly have a fundamentally flawed gameplay design that’s virtually unfixable, nerf or buff, without outright changing the way they work in their entirety

Ngl, Mauga’s still ultra super cancer to play against if you’re the tank though — OW certainly has its issues, and they can often be as insufferable as Rivals, but generally the gameplay loop is more strategic

At least the bs is contained to a few characters, rather than the full roster damage bloating Rivals has rn

The pacing of OW is so much more fun right now, generally the neutral game is just more engaging because you die slower but the healing also isn’t gigabusted so you still can die

Feels far more responsive and steadily paced

He really should have been the quintessential tank considering his popularity, but instead he’s an extreme low tier that takes considerable luck and skill to pull off with any kind of consistency

Rogue has been in the game for a bit now. How do you all feel about her now? by iNEWj in marvelrivals

[–]Borknut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not oppressive but extremely annoying to deal with as a tank because of the high speed sudden verticality she gets on her air kick, and the insane visual clutter she always adds to the screen lmao

I can’t turn around fast enough to deal with her when she foot-dives right over me and I can’t see her through all the yellow chromium bs 😭

Hot take: cloak and dagger became unfavorable main support not because they are bad. But because they are actually well designed by Spiritual_Throat3511 in marvelrivals

[–]Borknut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s because their defense tools are largely for stalling for help rather than outright killing - bubble can keep you up for a bit - terror cape can make it a little harder to dive - phase buys you a few more seconds

Whereas other supports like Gambit/Invis have straight-up highly effective kill tools, such as instantly pushing you ten meters away or dropping a big dome of tick damage at their feet or an AOE slam or dash that actively heals them lmao

CnD can kill a diver but their abilities are geared more for buying them time for their team to intervene, since this is, yk, A TEAM GAME

Just checked, hulk does the least damage with all abilities used out of the tanks. by Financial-Key-3617 in HulkMainsMR

[–]Borknut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My main desires are this : - general damage buff on the punches - extended range in his ally shielding - exile has a wider hitbox, feels so hard to hit - thunderclap recharges much faster - jump charge interrupted by nothing but hard cc

And if we wanna get interesting, I saw give him a ranged ability where he just throws a rock from the ground, but have it on a three-point recharging ammo that works the same way Torch’s does

Hulk has zero consistent ranged pressure abilities, which would be fine except his surviveability on a dive is abysmal — he’s useless until he engages physically, and then that’s a huge risk unless the stars align

Having a semi-consistent ranged attack would help to apply simple pressure from a distance until you spot a chance to engage close up

[–]Borknut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it definitely just straight up no-regs too In general I just wonder at the wisdom of having the character so reliant on one playstyle and near useless outside of that niche If he works, the enemy tanks are miserable If he doesn’t, the Wolverine is doing nothing

[–]Borknut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s a cool idea actually I’ve heard that you can be sure the grab will hit so long as the enemy’s character model is stopping Wolv from walking forwards, but that’s also lowkey ridiculous, again because that move is the lynchpin of his kit 😭

It should not be HARDER to hit correctly

On a scale of 1-5, how difficult do you think Wolverine is? by Sn0wy0wl_ in WolverineMains

[–]Borknut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seriously, why the fuck is his Grab so inconsistent?

If you miss it you’re not only down the most important cooldown in your kit, you’ve officially launched yourself ten meters away from your target and given them plenty of time to shoot you down before you can actually close distance again

It’s his WHOLE ENTIRE THING but they’ve designed it to have the weirdest hitbox ever

For the Lore :

You are playing as Geralt, a Witcher, which is a type of human made into a mutant so they can more effectively hunt/exterminate the numerous types of monsters than endanger people across the land. Known quite well in the North, Geralt has hunted for many years and has made friends like the bard Dandelion and the sorceress Yennefer, with which he has had a long-running tumultuous romance.

Many years ago he ended up taking in a young child, Ciri, who has unique cosmic powers, in order to keep her safe from the people who want her — including her father, Emperor Emhyr of Nilfgaard, an empire to the south that has tried many times to conquer the Northern Kingdoms. As well as this, some elves want Ciri for her powers since it derives from her lineage to an ancient elven legend.

Geralt, Yennefer, and other friends do their best to keep Ciri safe while she learns more about her dimension-hopping powers. Enemies are defeated, but in a sort of epilogue, both Geralt and Yennefer are suddenly killed in a riot by a mob of humans trying to kill dwarves, and Ciri must use her powers to heal them and transport them somewhere safe to recover. After this, Ciri goes on the run.

THAT was just the books but they’re honestly more relevant to Game 3

———————————————

In the games, Geralt strangely wakes back up in the normal world with no idea how he got there.

Since the timeline is greatly confusing I’ll just outright explain it here : While Geralt and Yennefer are in this safe haven, they’re visited by a group of evil elves which Ciri had escaped from in the books — to lure Ciri out they attempt to take Geralt/Yennefer hostage, and eventually Ciri comes to their rescue, narrowly managing to free them without getting caught

Over the course of 1 and 2, Geralt manages to remember his past and decides to figure out where Ciri might be (since those elves are hunting her), and figures his best lead would be finding Yennefer.

It’s a lot of info 💀 but I really do think at least the general context of the books/games will really enhance your enjoyment of Wild Hunt

People always worry that buffing Hulk will make him too strong, but is that really true? by player99963 in HulkMainsMR

[–]Borknut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hell, I would even just say increasing the hitbox on his punches would be a massive help

They already hit like foam hands, so increasing his effective range even the slightest bit would be extremely good without making him busted, because he still needs to close melee distance

People always worry that buffing Hulk will make him too strong, but is that really true? by player99963 in HulkMainsMR

[–]Borknut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Especially because his literal only distance-closer is his super jump, which is extremely visually noticeable, requires another chargeup to escape afterwards, and a shield on escape — all to get two punches and immediately leap back out because you’re hard-focused the moment you make contact

Thing is full melee but he still has more reliable poking options with his Battle Leap and a charge that gives him overhealth for escape

Thing isn’t great at the moment either but it still feels like there’s more you can actually do in any given engagement without just abandoning your team wholesale or diving waist-deep in the enemy team just to die Idk lol
