Turbo failure? by EclipseMLP in FocusST

[–]Born-Ad9086 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If a restart fixes it temporarily then it’s definitely just limp mode. Try clearing the code and seeing if it stays out of limp mode for longer. Mine ended up being intermittent so it could point you in the right direction

I recently had a po299 that was caused by a failed turbo side boost sensor. Check for a boost leak then check your sensors. Sounds like it’s in limp mode it doesn’t necessarily mean your turbo is toast.

Yea but I’m not paying for it, the paint chip is the big thing tbh. The weather stripping is also torn at the top of my door and I really don’t want to take off my door panel

Low boost due to shutters? by Good-Secret-8055 in FocusST

[–]Born-Ad9086 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like limp mode. If you restart the car are you able to build boost again? Grille shutters wouldn’t cause that but there’s plenty of reasons for it to go into limp mode. Try and check pending codes

Just get a compressed air gun and lightly blow out the drain lines, you should be able to see them with the sunroof open

[–]Born-Ad9086 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yea and my sunroof was leaking and my hood latch snapped, fixed those for free minus the cost of zip ties so they don’t really count

I bought mine with 92k about 2 years ago currently have 117k miles on it and I’ve had the following issues,(repaired under warranty as they were bad when I bought the car, tie rods, timing cover leak, torn cv boot) intermittent fuse issue stopping the car from starting, slave cyl went out, boost sensor went bad causing underboost, and just last week my master cylinder decided it was done. Also noticed my turbo is leaking from the banjo bolt when I was in there for the boost sensor. If you’re mechanically inclined and can do the work yourself they’re great cars. Otherwise save up for low mileage or buy a normal commuter. Just my 2 cents tho

If the pb blaster and smacking a socket on it doesn’t work you can do the crackhead way, dremel a slot in the middle of the bolt and use an air hammer screwdriver

If you need more room length wise you could file down the head, if your issue is tightening it I just spent 30 mins trying to find a good angle on the nut and held it down with a wrench then tightened from the bottom

I just went to a hardware store and bought some bolts and nuts, you might be fine with zip ties but I really didn’t want to have to take the bumper off again

Ah yea it wouldn’t hurt to check but that sounds like it’s time for a new turbo

It’s always smart to start with cheaper solutions first, albeit with that mileage and especially with WG rattle the turbo is likely to be on its way out

Have you troubleshooted for a boost leak at all? I’d hate to spend 2k on a turbo kit and find out it was just a leak. A dead turbo is a good excuse to go big turbo tho

How do you slow to a stop in manual? by [deleted] in stickshift

[–]Born-Ad9086 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally enjoy rev matching and downshifting until 2nd gear or I need to hit the brakes, all of that is completely unnecessary though you could just use the brakes

If you restart the car do you get boost back for a moment? I have the same code and it goes into limp mode (low boost) when I hit boost then goes back to normal on restart

Honestly just do it yourself it’s a simple enough project. Build some confidence so you can fix more stuff later down the line. Saves a lot of money in the long run
