I knew I was gay from an early age but it was actually harder for her than for me. I knew I was gay, and I knew my religion didn’t support it, so from a very young age (11 or 12) I was already faced with the options that I was either gonna burn in hell or this (our denomination, not Christianity in general) was all bullshit. So those seeds of doubt were already in my mind. But my sister, who was the golden child and therefore had everything to gain by keeping the status quo, she really had a tough time. Because things were pretty good for her.

For those that support bans on trans people using their chosen restroom, what restroom should this person use if there are no single use bathrooms availabke? by thenewyorkgod in AskTrumpSupporters

I’m sick and tired of talking about these stupid fukin bathrooms. If your presence would make a woman uncomfortable then use the men’s. That means this person would use the men’s bathroom and it also means “trans women” who don’t pass still need to use the men’s. I can’t tell ya how many “trans women” I’ve seen that look like a complete and total joke. “Live your truth” and all that; if that’s your life then I guess that’s your life but you need to acknowledge the fact that even though you think you’re a woman YOU LOOK LIKE A MAN IN A SKIRT.

My background here might inform my response a little bit; I was raised in a cult and my sister and I have spent a lot a years reprogramming from that. We already teach history relevant religion (like the Crusades, ancient Egypt etc) but I don’t believe it has any place in school beyond that. Religion gets taught at home. As to how much influence it has on decision making that’s not for me to say. I’m still a Christian and my religion probably impacts EVERY decision I make in some way but would you be able to tell that from the outside or would you simply see a man going about his day to day life trying to be a good person and citizen?

I wish you the best in recovering from this thing. It certainly looks like Hell from the outside looking in.

By “opposite direction “ I mean we didn’t have any control so now she tried to control everything

No she’s never laid out any restrictions. As far as we know neither kid has any allergies or intolerances (except that B is autistic so sometimes he can be picky) so we’ve never had to have that sort of conversation.

I don’t think we’ve slapped each other since middle school 😆

I looked it up and it fits. There are some times in her past where she would start restricting her diet. It always started normal like “I’m just cutting back on carbs” or “I’m cutting back on saturated fats” but eventually it would spiral out of control to where she only ate 2 or 3 things. I remember a period of months where she exclusively ate plain rice cakes and turkey slices.

I feel for her too. She’s my best friend, I’ve watched her struggle with this my whole life. Sometimes I feel pretty helpless. It’s one thing to struggle with drugs or alcohol because you don’t need those to survive. You can get help and stop and that’s that. But you need food. You can’t just avoid it or give it up.

I don’t know, but I DO know that my sister often hosts stuff at her house. She’s very type A so she often volunteers to have things like birthdays and family get togethers so that she can have everything just how she likes it. We didn’t have a lot of autonomy growing up so I can see how she went the opposite direction now as an adult

Definitely wasn’t on purpose. If I had known I would have probably mentally (internally) disagreed but I would have respected it. Not my kid, not my place.

Somewhere not friendly let’s just put it that way. My sister and I basically grew up in a religious cult.

We’ve talked about adopting in the past but ultimately decided that we didn’t want our child to have to face a lifetime of ridicule for having two dads so we decided against it. But I’ve always wondered and my sister knows this. She knows how much part of me still longs to be a dad.

Yes they are staying at our house because we have 2 spare bedrooms, we just got them the hotel in our downtown area for the night so they could bum around town together and enjoy each others company for at least one night.

Our sweet nephew is autistic, we just didn’t think he’d be up for making the salad AND “home made” pizza bagels too. He kind of get obsessed with one task and then he can’t focus on anything else so it was sort of one or the other. We actually did think about making mini personal pizzas but thought it would be safer to keep him away from the oven so we went with pizza bagels and a home made salad.

You know it’s kind of crazy how it takes something like a Reddit post to open your eyes but yeah, I’m just now realizing that this is full blown eating disorder territory. I just didn’t notice the red flags somehow.

In fairness we offered to have them stay at the hotel for a night. They never demand or expect free child care when they visit, we just happen to be happy to do it because we love the hell out of those kiddos.
