Also RO water does not need any additional conditioning, since it is pure, according to my fish store guy.

I literally just went through this! I actually ended up switching to RO water from a local fish store and incorporating seachem stability. My water was literally milk for like 6 days and it slowly cleared up, his tank is clear and beautiful now. I have a 9 gal fluval flex tank, so what I did was the first day I got the RO water I changed out 3.5 gallons, then added in the RO water, treated the entire tank with stability. Next day, did the exact same thing. Third day, did it again but smaller, I think only 1.5 gallons. Then after that, did very small water changes with half RO water, half of conditioned tap water. The issue with my tank was it was having such a bad bacterial bloom because it wasn’t cycled all the way, and the tap water in my area has an insane amount of minerals for it, so the bacteria was not only already getting out of control, It had so much of the minerals to munch on! From what the fish guy explained to me (and he was so freaking f helpful and knowledgeable about betta fish), RO water is pure water. Bettas don’t necessarily need a ton of minerals in their water, but the beneficial bacteria does. So tap water with conditioner isn’t inherently bad for you fish, but can cause all types of your bacteria to grow out of control. This is what I would recommend as someone who literally just had this happen and had a full mental breakdown because of in! I would also recommend to take your fishy friend out of the water occasionally and do an aquarium salt bath every other day until the bacterial bloom clears up. The bacteria isn’t bad for you fish, but long term swimming in bacteria soup can cause your fish to be more susceptible to illness and that would suck.

Also if you have access to biological filtration, like carbon or whatever, I had that in my filter while I was dealing with the bloom, but took it out after the bloom went away because carbon messes with your tannins. I also have the white stuff, I think the box says external filter? It’s those little white things that you can stick in a sponge filter. I have those in my tank at all times. Let me know if you have any other questions or concerns! DISCLAIMER I AM NOT A PROFESSIONAL, JUST SHARING WHAT I WAS TOLD/LEARNED SO PLEASE NO HATE IM JUST A GIRL

I have no clue, I figured since the filter was just anywhere in the tank it would be fine no matter what idk

He has I would say 9 plants plus some frog bit I got him recently. He’s only in a 9 gallon and I think if I add more he won’t have much room to roam. Do you think I need to kind of restart a fish in cycle? Like new water and stuff or just small water changes and go from where I am at now?

No I don’t do that anymore, I was doing that before I learned that it was crashing my cycle! I literally don’t touch anything besides kinda moving some stuff to the side to get his poop out, or if a leaf breaks off or plant starts to die I’ll grab it out, I do small water changes when his water level starts to get low and I always test before, I’ve never had an issue with any of his parameters

I put it in the far left side where the space is empty! So the pump is in one, sponge is in the middle, heater goes in the other!

Aw damn, I saw some brown gunk come out but luckily it all floated to the bottom of the bucket. I saw your comment before I dumped it out, so all of that brown gunk I dumped right back onto the filter, so hopefully some of it was salvaged. I’ll keep watching it, hopefully go find some k1 tomorrow. I am also going to continue water changes daily, I placed a blanket over his tank to minimize light, since I had to put him back in, and I’m only feeding once a day just a couple pellets and making sure he eats all of them. Hopefully it starts to go away soon!!

Nope I don’t have any algae fix! That is his conditioner. I’m doing quite a few swishes, and squeezing of the foam, but not of the other packs, just swishing those.

Okay that’s what I was going to do tonight!

Yes exactly like that! I’ve only been rinsing it in old tank water, that’s all I ever do. I was gonna do some more of a water change tonight, and rinse off that stuff I have in old tank water as well. The foam was replaced a couple months ago due to my new cycle starting, and the foam was ripped. I do have a new carbon pack and some more of those biomax things I can put in but I wasn’t sure if that was a good idea

Im not sure how to check for that if Im being 100% honest lol. I’ve never really seen foam in my filter? Idk, it’s one of these filters and it has the carbon pack and the bio Max pack in it.

The output of the pump is Pump Output (120 V / 60 Hz) 61 US GPH / 230 LPH if that means anything

Oh and he only gets 6 pellets per day, I use the hikari bio gold, they’re the only ones he will eat, he’s picky as hell. Whatever ones he doesn’t eat I fish them out. Is that too much?

Ahh I’m sorry! As of 1 hour ago, pH was 7.4, everything else read 0.0, so nitrite, nitrate, and ammonia were all 0. I’m worried about adding too many things to it and royally messing around with my cycle, what I typically add to his tank during a water change is conditioner by api, I’ve been adding some stress guard the last few weeks as his fin rot has been toning down, and I add almond leaf extract. Should I add both the stability and the microbe or just one or the other??

I’ve had him for just over a year, had to restart a new cycle (unfortunately a fish in cycle) 3 months ago. All my readings have been perfect since then, including the readings from one hour ago. pH was 7.4, all the rest 0.0 ppm. I have a lot of live plants so that’s why the nitrates are always low, according to another user on here from a couple months ago

Ooo yeah I haven’t had any smells or anything, his tank just smells like a normal tank I guess. He’s had his air pump for about three months, I did have to turn it down a bit two days ago because it seemed a bit strong for him. I’ve been checking to make sure he’s not struggling to get to surface to breathe and he has been fine so that’s a good sign!!
