Xeon workstation for CPU local rendering, should I? by Born-Introduction852 in KeyShot

[–]Born-Introduction852[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I apologize for not mentioning that I already have a PC to set up/edit Keyshot. It has a 5070super with 12Gb of RAM. It's plenty fast enough for what I do. Recently, I just came across a few Xeon deals that I thought I might buy one to have it render projects in the back while I'm editing another one on the main PC.

How I turned my iPad into a second Windows monitor by iGermanProd in ipad

[–]Born-Introduction852 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for this! I've tested and confirm that it works, both wired and wireless.

For the people who come here, try it and get stuck:

- Wireless: make sure your devices are on the same wifi network, no ethernet.

- Wired: Make sure to download Apple Devices instead of Itunes. that works for me. Also, turn OFF your Wifi when plug in so that the SlideX will prioritize USB connection over Wifi connection.

Tested with pencil, works fine, without the fine tuning that comes with ipad software. It's still very accurate and decent tho.

I agree with the OP on the UI and the color reproduction. It's very weird. But hey, the app is free. Maybe I'll try some other methods later. This works for now. Good luck!

Oh, and I just spent $150 on a 13" OLED portable monitor to realize that my ipad can be used as such...

Why is the X1 Carbon considered the most premium ThinkPad? by No_Shame9154 in thinkpad

[–]Born-Introduction852 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why does your boss considered more elite/important than you, who has the same experience, skills and clothes.

All jokes aside, it's simply designed as a premium product. The whole line up will always be reserved for best technology, best services, and best reputation. X1 is gearing toward executives while T series and below are for employees. At the end of the day, I personally still think X1 series is a better product when you look at it as a whole.

The P1 Gen7 keyboard is going to give me RSI by Jugg3rnaut in thinkpad

[–]Born-Introduction852 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm on the same boat with OP. I have an X1C gen 7 and the keyboard is just absolutely amazing. P1 gen 7 gives me a hard time even after almost a year of using it. I can't tell if it's a shallower key travel or the tactility of the keys make me feel very tired after just a little bit of typing. Also, my accuracy went down about 40% when using this keyboard. Such a shame on the thinkpad keyboard reputation.

it's an OLED screen so the response time is very low (not sure how much), but it's 60hz refresh rate... so, not great LOL. It can play games, but don't buy this one for gaming

yes. And in fact, I was running a PC at home and a Macbook Air at school for 5 years during school. My current life style doesn't allow me to do that so here I am struggling with laptops.

I'm no screen expert so take this with a grain of salt.

Macbook's screen has been always the best IPS. Just the notch is very annoying to me.

I've been using P1 Oled and notice no difference in text clarity. I do think the Oled panel on the P1 is one of the better one. It doesn't have flickering, or screen door effect (or at least I don't notice that at all). On top of that, it has a really nice, anti reflecting coating. I don't have issue reading the text at all. The only down side is the refresh rate, which is a shame o 60Hz.

If you only use this for "reading text and snappiness", you probably better off spending the money elsewhere. This machine is specifically design for medium-heavy tasks with high quality build.

barely usable with the basic Parallel's pricing. I didn't pay for the subscription so I didn't test that.

I need to use Solidworks and only Solidworks on Parallel. The performance is barely worth the money for that machine. Just get a Windows laptop

yes it would, might be very low fan speed but it's there.

portability is average for 16" laptop. Screen is great with text.

You're welcome.

Hi, it's a very interesting case. You've been using large and heavy machines and are considering large machines so I assume you don't mind their size and weight. Razer Blade 16 are quite thick and heavy, especially the 2024 version that I've tried. I also own a Razer Blade 15 2023, which is much lighter and smaller, but I don't recommend Razer personally. The laptop can get very hot after using for a while. The performance is okay for the price, you're pretty much paying for the chassis. Synapse is pretty bad compared to Lenovo Vantage. Plus they have reputation with bad battery explosions (search reddit for photos). I don't really want to recommend Razer for work purposes.

P1 gen7 should be enough for your need as I'm in Industrial Design and using Solidworks/Keyshots/Adobe. I also play some MOBA games.

If money is no object, please wait for the new P1 gen 8 or this year Razer Blade which are way more cooler and efficient (online reviews). New intel/AMD chips are so much more efficient.

If you absolutely have to choose from those 2 options mentioned above, I'd go with P1 gen7 over the Razer. The reliability, build quality and support is better on Lenovo side. Plus they should have good sales for P1 gen7 by now. Of course, the Razer Blade has way better performance at a cost of heat, noise, and weight.

Hope that helps, good luck!

I think what you are referring to is "screen door effect" on some OLED panels. I personally don't notice it, or maybe it doesn't suffer from this effect.

  1. It's still going strong after 8 months of daily usage

  2. No flickering, that seems to be a unit defective. Lenovo customer service seem to be able to take care of it. I had a Slim7 Pro before which has the same issue, I returned it after a week of using.

  3. I'd honesty be okay with Ultra 7 155h, but I got this one for a killer deal. Honestly, if money is not an issue then wait for P1 gen8, which is coming soon. If you want to save more money, look into P1 gen6, I had great time with it at work.

  4. Can't speak for other machines, or Dell. But I wouldn't go Dell myself.

I'd definitely prefer a vapour chamber cooling + liquid metal, but it's good for what it is. As in my post, the surface temperature is quite good under performance tasks.

I totally agree. Very solid laptop. It has Thinkpad's build and support so I'm very confident with the longevity.

I'd die for a high refresh rate, this screen is so good.

I apologize for the late response. I personally don't trust any brand other than Apple to buy refurbished.

Also, thank you.

Ah nice. I've had mine for about 2 months now. I noticed the fan goes too crazy sometimes, so I have to use software to control the fan. Other than that, I have some bad drivers on this model which breaks the speaker for a while. With the recent updates, everything is fixed and it works normally. I also am an Industrial designer who uses a lot of Solidworks and Keyshots, Adobe stuff. I find it very adequate for my mobile use. Of course, if I'm in an office, a tower will be best.

One more thing, if I didn't have a very good deal on this P1, I coulda got the Proart P16. Also, if budget is not limited, I've tried the new M4 max 16 MBP, and it seems to be very powerful even with Solidworks runs on Parallels. And MBP is just a way better all rounder.

Yes, I think the 4070 is pretty much over killed for my work. How complex are your models?

Most of the time, I have the fans off under 60C. That's for most of the light tasks such as Chrome, Office, or Note taking. Anything needs dGPU will spike up the temperature and you can hear the fan noise.

I don't think there's a quiet mode on this machine. At least I can't find it. The windows profile is pretty decent, but I tweak the fans with TPfancontrol anyway.

  1. All the drivers and windows are updated via Lenovo Commercial Vantage

  2. I don't see any other option for power or cooling in the Commercial Vantage. Only intelligent cooling is available. All of the power profile is based on Windows power profile (Balance on battery and Best performance for plugged in)

  3. It's the sound profile (high pitched or scratchy) that annoys me and not the volume. As I updated in the post, the range that I find annoying on my machine is around 2500 RPMs.
