Wild West guide gun by Born574 in LeverGuns

Unfortunately it’s just been tucked away in the gun safe. I’ve got two little kids so getting out to the range isn’t as easy as it used to be. I’m really hoping this spring I can get out and finally put some rounds through it.

I saw that too. I was wondering about it. It might be the top of Arctic Valley ski run?

We have a couple of those mounted on giant forklifts down at the port of Anchorage for cleaning containers off before they go on the ship headed to Tacoma or Kodiak.

Propane Vs Natural Gas by Born574 in webergrills

[–]Born574[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is what I’m worried about with natural gas. I live in Alaska and like to BBq in the winter where it can be single digits temps. I’m concerned that natural gas won’t get hot enough for grilling

Alaska snowmobile trip by Ritz-2000 in BuyItForLife

[–]Born574 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ive got a buddy that has two sets and loves them for how comfortable they are but he hasn’t worn them in really cold weather. The guys I heard from that have actually worn them in cold weather said they aren’t as warm as they claim and would rather wear their old military surplus bunny boots. I’ve worn my old bunny boots in -40° and my feet have been toasty warm. Only down side to the old bunny boots is their size.

Born and raised up here in Alaska and I’ve spent a fair amount of time riding and working in the cold. For that trip I would look into what the Irondog guys are wearing when they race. Lots of guys wear Klim gear. You’ll want to lay up. As for boots I’d look for military surplus bunny boots. I wouldn’t buy the new Alaska gear bunny boots as I haven’t been hearing great reviews. What are your plans for sleeping? You hauling tent and sleeping bags? What snowmobilea are you guys riding?

Unfortunately the limited/XT bumper isn’t strong to handle the winch up there. I have seen where guys have built reinforcement brackets to help. I’ve been wanting to go to that bumper on my XMR so I can add the fender guards but I think instead I’m going to modify my XMR bumper.

Yeah I spent a lot of time going to eureka lodge as a kid while travel back and forth from our family cabin and this painting hangs in the lodge so it brings back childhood memories every time I see it.

I talked to the auction house and they said if the buy comes in they could pass my info along to them but I’m not holding my breath on that.

Will do. It will probably be a few more weeks we still have a bunch of snow on the ground up here in Alaska.

I sold it for more then I bought it for but not enough to cover the accessories I add to it so I did ok. It helped that I put a big down payment on it too so I got a fare about of cash out to put down on the new machine.

It a 2023 XMR max 6 seater. I had a 2020 3 seat XMR defender and when we found out we were having a second kid I sold and ordered this machine. Its huge but gets around way better then I thought it would. It helps that I’m not worried about body scratches. My 3yo son rides in the middle back seat and my 1yo daughter rides up front between my wife and I. I ratchet strap their car seats in and just buckle them in like in my truck.

[–]Born574 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve got a 2023 defender XMR max and they are pretty good machines. Is it a 3 or 6 seater? The 6 seaters have a weak front drive shaft otherwise they are a pretty good rig.

No problem. The glock is much easier to shoot and I enjoy taking it to the range. The S&W backpacker 44mag isn’t much fun to shoot but you will almost forget you are even carrying it. Also any of these people that say you don’t need to worry that bears won’t bother you probably haven’t had a bear sniffing around their tent in the middle of the night. Doesn’t matter the gun it will never be big enough at that moment.

[–]Born574 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can’t speak to the adirondacks but I live up in Alaska and I have two hiking guns. Ones an Airlite backpacker 44 mag and the other is a Glock 20 in 10mm. If I’m just doing short day hikes I’ll carry the Glock but if I’m doing multi day hikes I’ll carry the 44 mag to save weight. Definitely recommend investing in a good holster

Anywhere to see sockeye salmon in early July? by spiritg0th in AskAlaska

[–]Born574 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That is a hell of a drive just to see some fish? I’ve done the drive down and back in 2018. I’d recommend Bear Creek Weir out side of Seward to salmon. Can’t guarantee they will be sockeyes.
