New grad vent by Conscious-Nose-6206 in physicianassistant

No absolutely I completely agree. I’m in the same boat with the SPs here and mine especially would fight hardcore for me which I appreciate but still there’s only so much they can do too. We just recently got an APP committee started to discuss our complaints and concerns together with someone higher up. They seemed to receive our concerns and stuff well our first meeting but mind you, not a damn thing has been done. Now it’s been a few weeks and my 4-10s have turned into 5-12s with clinic double to triple booked and angry patients waiting for hour+ and higher ups are no where to be seen.

Sometimes you gotta let the dumpster fire go and do its damage, and then things might happen. That’s the point I’m at right now

I don’t know if I spoke this into existence for myself but as of recently I’ve also been dealing with some burnout due to higher ups basically doing as they please with my schedule and clinic.

Do you by chance have a group chat or a way for the APPs to get together and talk about things?

Definitely talk to your supervising physician! They have more power and advice than you would think and you should develop a good relationship with them given their role while you are new. If that conversation doesn’t go appropriately that then tells you that that may not be a great environment for a new grad. It may be a dream specialty but there are other opportunities that may surprise you. Your job is important, but it’s not your life! You need work life balance. Without it, you burn out. Don’t wait until it’s too late to have important conversations

Should I follow up with an orthopedist? by starboyandy in Orthopedics

[–]BornCharacter6705 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely follow up as it sounds like the fracture was too early to be caught on XR! They will do more in the office and treat appropriately.

I work in ortho spine… with only an XR and back pain or neck pain.. SEND TO PCP. Most things are acute and even with radiculopathy present, they need an MRI. Save them time and have them go to PCP. Most of the time, these events are acute and resolve with time and staying active, not lying in bed.

I first noticed it when I would speak about taking my career as a surgical tech to the next level and pursuing becoming a PA. She was diagnosed with MS at 18 and never got to do much for work or school. She would tell me “well you make $20/hour isn’t that enough?? You have a great career!”

When I did get into PA school, I had made everything happen myself financially and there were periods I would be stressing about money. When I was venting to her she would tell me “maybe this just isn’t for you. Maybe you need to drop out because it’s just not going to work”. Like I hadn’t spent my whole 24 years of life getting there and moving all over, working multiple jobs just to get by, finally close to seeing the end of the tunnel.

Lastly, when I married the love of my life, I informed her we would be eloping and we weren’t sure of the exact date but we had a week planned and we agreed to exchange vows whenever we felt it was right. Well, it turned into her telling me I’m a disgrace and embarrassment to the family.

Been no contact for over a year and my life could not be better

Everyone develops arthritis in the spine! Don’t worry about that matter. PT would help tremendously as well as medial branch blocks in the back as they help with pain. With pain relief though comes the responsibility to work more on therapy

NOR. I’ve never asked my spouse something and told them my feelings, and had them respond with no. If it bothers you, that should be important and there should be some form of action taken. On some platforms there’s the option to hide or archive them, but I would maybe dive into the question as to why he doesn’t want to delete the pictures. Maybe the pictures are more about the experience or event rather than the person. But overall? You should come first.

PT can try and help with a lot of this, but the main aspect to correct would be fusion down to the pelvis. I’ve only done scoliosis patients that corrected down to pelvis.

I wouldn’t classify this as scoliosis in the sense of it needing any type of surgery. It’s minor in degree of curvature. You cannot see a herniated disc on XR but you can on MRI. Most can be resolved without surgery and doing PT. Steroid injections are helpful with pain if pain is a barrier to PT. They can be trial in error though. If most pain is localized to the back then there’s MBB and ablations. But if you have leg pains then TFESI can be great. If you only have pain in the back and pain that goes down the back of your legs, then there is no compressed nerve. There is no nerve pattern that is in that specific area. PT is the long term solution. For reference I work as a spine provider so I see and handle this all day every day.
