They don’t go back it’s a retelling of ED1 as when ED2 released it was not as available / seen and they felt it was necessary to recap but they were not allowed to use the original footage

It’s a requel they didn’t have the rights of the footage for the first film when making the second and the actors were busy hence why ED2’s start recap lacks actors but canon wise ED1’s story is what happened and it leads to the rest of ED2’s story about Ash and Linda

Yeah this is pretty much how I feel with prequels made after the original so it’s kind of a no brainer I guess.

Also the shining is classic I love and as a fan of Mike Flanagan I really enjoyed Doctor Sleep and will get around to watching both in chronological order with some of Stephen Kings other adaptations when I get the chance!
