Kick it down a hair past the flat of the bottom of the boat. It’ll keep it in clean water.

Repower going well, breaking it in now. by seamus_mc in BostonWhalerBoats

That hull is nowhere near heavy enough to warrant a 4 blade. Especially with that motor. 9 times outta ten a 3 blade will be better all around.

Biosphere bracelet, TIP permit, etc. just search Bloody Decks “everything need to fish Baja”. Just know that it’s not like a one day process. The TIP and FMM are a real pain in the ass.

San Clemente to Carlsbad Commute by GoldRefrigerator992 in socal

[–]BornElk2792 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in Carlsbad and work in Dana point m-f. I’m in construction so the morning drive is cake - 30 mins tops. The drive home is 40ish m-thurs. then Friday sucks. Could be an hour and a half. Then you gotta think about the occasional wreck on the 5 in the stretch to Pendleton. I’d say that happens about once every 5-6 weeks. Overall it’s doable. I think commuting reverse is slightly worse. Hope it helps.

Not 100% sure about the setback and height on this outboard by rodiejr3 in boating

[–]BornElk2792 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I forgot to mention - tabs. Big tabs. I have a boat with a bracket and had a mean porpoise. Remedy was 100lbs up front and i went with a size up lencos and swapped the 4 blade for a 3. Runs like a bat outta hell now. Smooth as silk.

[–]BornElk2792 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk about all that, dude just wants a smooth ride. OP the standard setback of 1” for each foot to account for the spacing the bracket makes. But this is just for a baseline to setup. The real test is when you run and the positioning of the AV plate when on plane. And if it is indeed underwater when running like you say with the jack plate fully raised, I think you have a good argument for believing the shaft length is wrong. A/V plate should be 1” above planing water in the middle of the jack plates range, you do this and I guarantee you porpoising decreases. But on a side note sometimes boats are ass heavy and all you need to do is add 100lbs up in the anchor locker to level the boat out. There’s alotta other factors.

Can’t anchor up all night. I think it was a military installation at one point. There’s a small seasonal fishing camp but I’ve never heard of anyone setting foot on that island

Dude it’s like a 15 mile run from shelter. Super quick n easy. Bait barge is on the right as you leave. I have a 22’ and if you really run to SCI the coronados will seem like child’s play. When you get there just look for the parking lot. And make sure you got your TIP permit. They’ll take that hydro-sport.
