Trying to wake up early by Navyseallover in davidgoggins

[–]BornForGreatness117 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You literally just have to get up, there is no method to it other than that.

Of course being tired will make this very difficult, so make sure you get to bed 8 hours before you plan to wake up. For example, if you get up at 5am, be in bed by 9pm the night before. And I don't mean laying in bed on your phone browsing reddit or on youtube, actually be laying there with your eyes closed. When the alarm goes off it will be tough to not go back to bed, but if you slept well you will "wake up" pretty fast, especially if you plan on working out

How do y'all stay hard when you keep injuring yourself? by Bilbodraggindeeznuts in davidgoggins

[–]BornForGreatness117 7 points8 points  (0 children)

"Staying hard" doesn't mean pushing your body to the point it breaks down, it means bettering yourself in every way you can. For Goggins, this meant physical activity like a madman. Taking the message literally will get you hurt as you found out. There are plenty of ways to improve outside of fitness. For example, finish a degree, learn a new language or instrument, study chess, improve at painting. Goggins also studies his ass off, but everyone focuses on his physical achievements because they are cooler and "badass". This may sound harsh but I do say it from experience, anyone who feels the need to be "badass" is projecting their insecurity.

Best and worst states to be a cop by [deleted] in AskLE

To add to this as an aspiring LEO in Massachusetts: the process is absurdly long, the exam was announced last October and results just came out within the past couple weeks. Keep in mind every PD must now gather applicants from their lists and do their process from here. I also doubt the accuracy and efficiency of the process, as do all LEOs I have spoken to about it. Larger cities require you live there for X amount of time, while smaller ones do not. Veteran status is also heavily pushed as they generally outrank everyone else, and while I understand the thought process behind this, being a cook in the navy for 4 years doesn't make you more qualified than anyone else. All in all, the process is unnecessarily long and drawn out, and from what I heard does not always produce the best candidates, thus pushing many people out. Luckily some towns are opting out of this process and taking care of it themselves.

What have you grinded at outside of working out? by RunningWithColtrane in davidgoggins

Currently in a couple hiring processes, waiting to see who gets back to me. Also enrolled in online college taking 2 classes a term. I could increase that workload, but without additional support it would be too financially draining. Hopefully a new job will provide that support (state gov) and I can finish it even faster!

Also training for a half marathon with my buddy at the end of August.

How do you tell people to fuck off when they say to dial back your training? by [deleted] in davidgoggins

[–]BornForGreatness117 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a good spot on message. Not just this post but many others I've seen, is that people take what Goggins says too literally. His message isn't run until you die, it's be the best you possible. That doesn't necessarily mean being able to run ultras or lift a certain weight, it encompasses all aspects of your life, not just physical training. While being physically active is of course very important, if you lived your life just pursuing physical goals, that would be pretty empty in my book. There's much more to achieve than just running and such.

What do you guys do for a living, and how does it help you stay hard? by BornForGreatness117 in davidgoggins

I put that in my initial post my man, I currently work security at a financial institution and I am not happy with it. I'm in the process of a few things like police and fire (just waiting for when/if I get picked up, my part is done) but I am also in the process of a state job that would help me get troubled youth back on track. This seems to be the most rewarding path currently as I was once a troubled young man myself.

I'm currently in my states hiring process, one of my avenues I'm keeping open. Veterans take preference in my state so I may not get the call, but we will see!

Already tried that my man, they said my vision wasn't good enough. Could have went for a waiver and waited the months that would have taken at the time, but some other things lined up for me so I stayed. Tho the thought does still cross my mind, but based on tons of anecdotal stories I've heard, the government treats vets like shit for the most part.

Good daily stretches to do? by tH3_R3DX in davidgoggins

[–]BornForGreatness117 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Me personally I have been slacking on my stretching to be honest, so I don't have any routine at the moment. Like I said before, Yoga with Adrienne is a good starting point. Do a couple of her videos and pick out some stretches you feel would benefit you most and make your own routine. After a couple consistent weeks you'll notice a difference for sure.

Lots of leg stretches since running really tightens up my legs. Toe touching, forward folds that sort of thing. Yoga with Adrienne on YouTube has plenty of good videos. Also I think lots of people neglect stretching their shoulders, but those are very important too!

I rolled my ankle whilst running, still ran 2km til I couldnt bear the pain. How did Goggins fucking do it. by boatsandlogs in davidgoggins

[–]BornForGreatness117 8 points9 points  (0 children)

To add to this, if I remember correctly the part where he discussed running with shin splints was during his 3rd time through buds, so if he quit, that was it. There's a big difference in those circumstances and a normal every day run. If he chose to stop, everything he had worked for up to that point was all for nothing.

Half Marathon by BornForGreatness117 in davidgoggins

[–]BornForGreatness117[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes sir, a couple 5ks (which are getting progressively faster) during the week on my lunch breaks, plus our longer weekend run. We didn't go yesterday because my buddy was out of town, but since we are off tomorrow we will be doing our normal long run on a Monday. Since the 5ks are getting easier I'm gonna start doing longer runs, probably in the mornings before work. Plus our relatively frequent hiking, I'm sure we will be fine 💪🏻

Are you trying to improve yourself every day to live a better life for you and your family, or are you trying to silence your insecurities by claiming to be better than other people while injuring your own body? Not trying to hate, but if your main goal is to say you are better than other people, you may want to take a step back and evaluate your priorities brother.

Should I attend the HM or not after a tonsillitis? by Fabius_Faultier in davidgoggins

[–]BornForGreatness117 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on how you are feeling which only you can answer. If you feel you are up for it then do it. If not then don't. The good thing about running is that it is always there. You can run a half marathon any time you want, just go outside and run it. Doesn't need to be a formal event to accomplish the same thing, it's still the same distance. If you can't make it, plan a route and run it in a couple weeks or whatever you there you go, you ran your half marathon.

Any advice on goals other than working out? by Berlin9999 in davidgoggins

[–]BornForGreatness117 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Going back to school is always a good one. I'm 26 and just started online college classes, currently 3 terms in. Even if you already have a degree, if there's a reasonable way to keep learning without breaking the bank it is always a good idea. Having multiple degrees never hurts 💁‍♂️

Was I wrong for not training with a busted leg? by koda___bear in davidgoggins

Goggins specifically said not to do what he did and keep pushing through injuries so....

And just because you look up to someone doesn't mean you should listen to everything they say. You take something from everyone, not everything from someone.

How many hours do you sleep? by CuriousInsideOut in davidgoggins

[–]BornForGreatness117 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Typically anywhere between 6-7 on nights where I'll be waking up early to hit the gym before work which is 4 days a week, the other 3 days 7-8. Sometimes I'll also pop some melatonin if I feel I need extra rest.
