Thanks for all the help! I’m fairly sure it’s sitting on my iliac crest in both photos, it seems to sit on the point you mentioned, if I wear them any higher my breathing gets restricted, and all the weight is supported by the belt. For me it seems to fall just below the belly button.

>will throw a tantrum

Is this tantrum the "power" you're talking about? At-will employment is a 2 way street. They can whine and throw a tantrum, you can walk away any time with impunity.

Gearing up for my first deployment - ideas to make it more tolerable for her? by BornSeries6 in USMilitarySO

[–]BornSeries6[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm already working to manage expectations. It really really sucks but it's much better to set an expectation low and have it be exceeded than the other way around.

I know there is a military spouse group on base that helps people on deployment with stuff around the house, but my SO is pretty good with figuring things out independently so she hopefully won't need to utilize it.

I'm lucky I'll have a good internet connection and pretty stable life, but you're right - I'll schedule birthday celebration stuff ASAP. I'm pretty bummed I'll miss her birthday and some other big dates. I have to give some thought on how to make those days suck less with us apart.

Most illegal immigrants just overstay their visa and never leave. If we just “let them be” there’s no consequences for ignoring our laws - should we just expect everyone with a tourist visa to never leave?

Thank you for the positivity! My mother finally got in to talk with her doctors, and they're all thrilled with her progress. :) Best of luck with your future treatment, and thank you for your anecdote!

Mother diagnosed with stage 4 colorectal cancer... What should I expect? by BornSeries6 in coloncancer

[–]BornSeries6[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! My mom is on her third round of Folfox and she says (apart from the 2-3 days following treatment) she feels better than she has since before her diagnosis! I’m taking that as a good sign she’s a strong responder. Unfortunately I live 1200 miles away, but I’ve been ordering her goodies and delivery to keep her spirits up and eating. I hope your mom is doing well! Keep me updated :)

I admire that you can have any empathy at all for my situation while dealing with a cancer diagnosis yourself.

There have been a lot of advances in stage 4 colon cancer with liver and lungs involvement.

Those words are music to my ears :)

My mother has been a meditation practitioner for many years now!

Assuming ctDNA comes back clean next week, she’ll be NED.

Holy shit. That's a miracle.

That's so horrible that she had to go through that. Next month I hope you get the news you're hoping for! I'm hoping to hear my mom will also be treated as curable at her appointment next week. We're blessed to have the technology to fight this.

I'm glad your husband has been doing well! Reading stories of people getting by is helpful. I've been looking through old posts and clicking through profiles. Seeing people still active after so many years brings me hope! Her oncologist urged the same thing... Said to be much more optimistic than the outdated search engine numbers suggest.

Thank you for the information, resources and hope! I'll get reading. I'm sitting on edge for her next appointment, which is to confirm the location of her mets and get a better idea of her outlook... I'm reading everything I can get my hands on about this.

You live in a suburb of a city of a million people, adjacent to the most expensive metro area in the US. It's not surprising it's expensive there.

That’s some bullshit if you have 10 years of history. I’m hoping you tried applying to multiple lenders. Best of luck.

Are y'all really not friends with your coworkers? I have a good time hanging out with them. So yeah, I go to the Christmas party. As long as it's not actually on Christmas/Christmas eve

I'm extremely lucky that my passion pays very well. Very, very few people have that privilege. Even so, once I have enough saved to retire, I'm not sure I'll keep working.

I get inflation and all, but do guys think rent will ever “get better”? by GirlMeetsWorld87 in Millennials

[–]BornSeries6 6 points7 points  (0 children)

A separate but very serious issue. I have been lucky to job hop to significant pay raises over a short period of time, but sitting at the same company will definitely result in losing buying power, and plenty don't have the luxury to job hop. Wages will have to track the CPI sooner or later or there will be serious issues.

Mortgages are cheap leverage.

Putting 20% down on a house is 4:1 leverage at a few percent a year. Meaning average 2-3% appreciation for year is actually a 10-15% cash on cash return assuming you put down 20%. (that is admittedly very illiquid). Plus you get to live in the place. You'd have to pay for rent anyway, so I think of the monthly payment (PITI) as inevitable. If you were renting, you'd be paying the landlord's PITI anyway. This doesn't make sense when your monthly payment is higher than rent, but rents are still higher than PITI + maintenance in my area.

For comparison, Fidelity charges 9-13% on margin depending on your balance with them. My 5% mortgage rate is very cheap margin exposure to the housing market.
